High School Science Teacher
A High School science teacher instructs students in grades 9 through 12 in various science subjects and requires a bachelor's degree in a science field or education, plus a teaching license and often a teacher preparation program. These teachers use a variety of teaching methods, like inquiry-based learning, to help students develop skills in biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and more. Responsibilities
- Curriculum and instruction: Teach science courses based on the approved curriculum and help students meet science standards.
- Inquiry-based learning: Implement inquiry-based learning, which involves students developing and answering questions through investigations, experiments, and teacher-guided discussions.
- Skill development: Focus on developing both academic and interpersonal skills in students.
- Assessment: Monitor and assess student learning through various methods.
Teaching and subject areas
- A 9-12 science teacher can specialize in subjects like chemistry, physics, biology, or general science.
- Subject-specific knowledge: The teacher must have a strong understanding of their specific subject area, including topics like Newton's laws, chemical equations, or the solar system.
