Job Description

Be part of an amazing story

Macy's is more than just a store. We're a story. One that's captured the hearts and minds of America for more than 160 years. A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We've been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work

Job Overview

Keep our operation moving and make an impact every day! As a Maintenance Technician, you'll play a critical role in keeping our distribution center operating at peak performance. You'll perform preventive and corrective maintenance on material handling equipment, conveyor systems, industrial batteries, and facility infrastructure. Depending on the location, you'll also have the opportunity to work with advanced automation technologies that help power our operation.

This is a hands-on role where your skills make a difference every day. You'll diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues, perform routine inspections, and help prevent downtime before it happens. Working both independently and alongside a skilled maintenance team, you'll contribute to equipment reliability, continuous improvement initiatives, and the overall success of the operation.

If you enjoy troubleshooting complex problems, working with innovative technology, and seeing the direct impact of your work, you'll thrive in this role. Every repair, adjustment, and improvement you make helps keep products moving, supports our teams, and ensures a seamless operation from start to finish.

How our Colleagues spend their day…

  • When mistakes happen, they apologize authentically listening with empathy, valuing the customer's experience, and committing to making things right.
  • They take the time to truly understand customer needs before acting. They take ownership in every situation, being proactive in finding solutions, offering helpful resources, and communicating clearly and confidently.
  • Their full attention is always on the customer. To reassure customers, they follow through with clarity and consistency, delivering on promises and making things right when expectations aren't met.
  • They know that excellence is shown by focusing on what matters most to the customer

What To Expect

  • Diagnose equipment issues by observing, listening to, and testing operating machines to determine the need for adjustment, repair, or replacement.
  • Troubleshoot and repair material handling equipment, including sorters, conveyors, industrial batteries, and related systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components to help reduce downtime and keep operations moving.
  • Use computerized maintenance systems to monitor, document, and report equipment usage, parts replacement, repairs, and maintenance activity.
  • Support facility maintenance needs, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, cleaning, lubrication, and corrosion prevention.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Keep the operation running by quickly identifying equipment concerns, making repairs, and escalating issues that require vendor support.
  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, rebuild, replace, assemble, and test equipment parts to verify that malfunctions have been corrected.
  • Maintain and lubricate machine tools and equipment to support safe, reliable performance.
  • Perform routine repairs and rebuilds on equipment associated with automated warehouse operations, where applicable by location.
  • Install or recharge batteries for battery-powered material handling equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following maintenance safe work practices, reporting potential safety concerns, and keeping equipment and work areas clean and organized.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships and supports authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills that Matter

Must Have

  • Minimum 2 years of direct maintenance experience, commercial or industrial maintenance-related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, customers, office staff, receiving teams, fleet maintenance administration, management, carriers, and drivers.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret employment policies, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals in English.
  • Resourceful self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with computers, handheld technology, and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.

Nice to Have

  • Experience troubleshooting sorters, conveyors, material handling systems, or automated warehouse equipment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, including basic electrical tasks such as replacing motors, fuses, and switches.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and storage practices for ARC and MIG welding equipment, including OXY/ACETYLENE and PLASMA welding and cutting.

Physical activities you will perform:

  • This role involves performing essential job functions such as communication, collaboration, and use of office and computer systems.
  • Responsibilities include the ability to access and review written and electronic information, and to move within the work environment and interact with workplace materials as needed to carry out job responsibilities.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 10lbs
  • Requires close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
