Assistant Superintendent - Copeland, KS
This is salaried, exempt-level position.
Work that Feeds the World
As an Assistant Superintendent, you'll support the Superintendent in managing daily operations at our grain elevator. Your responsibilities will include loading/unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, and storing grain. You'll ensure a safe, sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT). You'll also train and lead hourly employees, perform special assignments, and maintain preventative maintenance and sanitation schedules.
Position Responsibilities
- Oversee daily plant operations, including environmental compliance, food safety, quality control, production, and cost optimization
- Champion the safety of all personnel by actively participating in safety and health compliance, conducting audits, addressing hazards promptly, and modeling safe practices
- Identify safety, environmental, and GMP hazards and take prompt corrective action
- Prioritize shift work and assign resources to effectively utilize each team member's experience and abilities
- Develop and lead hourly team members through training, mentoring, and performance feedback
- Apply mechanical and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot and maintain production systems, utilities, buildings, and grounds
- Lead preventive maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtime and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Lead projects focused on energy reduction, cost savings, and operational reliability
- Collaborate with commercial and plant teams to support overall operations
- Ensure corporate policies, industry regulations, and standards are followed in all daily activities
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2 years of experience leading and developing teams in an industrial or agricultural setting
- Experience leading plant safety programs and hazard analysis.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage people, schedules, and resources.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and train teams.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and fair, direct coaching.
- Problem-solving and organizational skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge of Maximo and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, Access, SharePoint).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work is performed indoors and outdoors year-round, occasionally in dusty, noisy, or hazardous environments.
The physical requirements of the job requires ability to climb stairs, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, meeting deadlines, providing calculated information, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted hours, and working as instructed.
