Construction Superintendent – Restaurant Construction

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Commercial Construction Superintendents with General Contractor experience, preferably with a strong background building restaurants.

The Superintendent will be responsible for the complete field execution of an assigned project from preconstruction and mobilization through final completion and turnover. This is a true supervisory position focused on managing subcontractors, maintaining the construction schedule, ensuring quality and safety, coordinating inspections, and delivering projects successfully.

The General Contractor does not self-perform construction work. Superintendents are responsible for coordinating and supervising subcontractors and ensuring that each trade completes its work according to the project plans, specifications, schedule, and quality expectations.

Superintendents are typically assigned to one project from start to finish, providing direct ownership and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Subcontractor Management

  • Provide continuous onsite supervision while construction activities are underway
  • Manage day-to-day field operations from project startup through turnover
  • Coordinate subcontractors, manpower, sequencing, materials, equipment, and deliveries
  • Hold subcontractors accountable for schedule, quality, manpower, safety, and performance
  • Conduct regular subcontractor and project coordination meetings
  • Maintain effective communication with Project Management and other members of the project team
  • Identify field issues early and proactively drive solutions
  • Scheduling & Project Planning

  • Develop, maintain, and drive the overall construction schedule
  • Prepare and maintain two-week look-ahead schedules
  • Coordinate trade sequencing and upcoming manpower requirements
  • Anticipate material, equipment, inspection, and subcontractor needs
  • Track critical deliveries and long-lead items
  • Maintain project milestones and proactively address potential schedule delays
  • Maintaining the project schedule is a central responsibility of the Superintendent, including weekly schedule updates and forward planning with subcontractors.

    Preconstruction & Construction Coordination

  • Review construction drawings, permit drawings, specifications, revisions, shop drawings, and subcontractor scopes
  • Verify existing field conditions, dimensions, utilities, and tie-ins
  • Coordinate project layout with subcontractors
  • Identify constructability, sequencing, and coordination issues before they impact construction
  • Coordinate permitting requirements and inspections
  • Prepare and communicate RFIs when field conditions or construction documents require clarification
  • The Superintendent is expected to review drawings and field conditions before construction and communicate discrepancies to the project team.

    Quality Control & Inspections

  • Monitor subcontractor installations for compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and project standards
  • Identify unacceptable or deficient work and coordinate corrective action
  • Inspect rough-ins, finishes, dimensions, equipment locations, and other critical construction details
  • Coordinate required building and trade inspections
  • Maintain an ongoing punch list throughout construction rather than waiting until project completion
  • Ensure completed work meets client expectations before turnover
  • Quality control is an ongoing field responsibility, with Superintendents expected to inspect work as it is installed and address deficiencies promptly.

    Safety & Jobsite Management

  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional jobsite
  • Enforce applicable safety requirements and jobsite procedures
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Maintain required permits, schedules, and safety documentation onsite
  • Document and promptly report accidents, incidents, or property damage
  • Protect existing conditions and completed work throughout construction
  • Project Documentation

  • Complete accurate daily construction logs
  • Document manpower, inspections, deliveries, and daily jobsite activities
  • Maintain progress photographs and weekly project reporting
  • Track RFIs, submittals, changes, and other project documentation
  • Utilize Procore for drawings, schedules, daily logs, photographs, inspections, and project reporting
  • Daily logs, progress photographs, and weekly safety documentation are required throughout construction.

    Project Completion & Closeout

  • Coordinate final building, fire, health, and other required inspections
  • Manage punch-list and incomplete work through final completion
  • Coordinate subcontractors during final corrections and closeout
  • Support TCO/CO requirements
  • Coordinate as-built drawings, permits, inspection records, and turnover documentation
  • Ensure outstanding project items are clearly documented and resolved
  • Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent working for a General Contractor
  • Restaurant construction experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a commercial construction project and multiple subcontractors
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling, and field operations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and subcontractor scopes
  • Experience coordinating RFIs, submittals, inspections, quality control, punch lists, and project closeout
  • Strong understanding of construction safety and jobsite management
  • Ability to proactively identify problems and develop practical field solutions
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Procore or comparable construction management software preferred
  • Local Superintendent – South Florida

    Local Superintendents are assigned to projects throughout the South Florida tri-county area, including Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties.

    Base Salary: $115,000–$125,000

    Additional compensation includes:

  • FWW overtime premium for eligible hours worked over 40 in a workweek
  • Mileage reimbursement in accordance with company policy and the applicable IRS mileage rate
  • For qualifying home-to-jobsite travel, the company's current policy reimburses mileage above the first 20 miles driven per day.

    Traveling Superintendent

    Traveling Superintendents manage projects located outside the South Florida tri-county area and must be willing and able to travel to projects as assigned.

    Base Salary: $120,000–$130,000

    Additional compensation includes:

  • FWW overtime premium for eligible hours worked over 40 in a workweek
  • Per diem for qualifying business travel in accordance with company policy
  • The current travel policy provides per diem allowances for qualifying meals and lodging expenses.

    Candidates may reside outside Florida for traveling positions. There is a current preference for identifying a Traveling Superintendent based in the Dallas, Texas area.

    Reporting Structure

    Superintendents report directly to the Vice President of Project Management and receive additional support from executive leadership, Senior Superintendents, and the General Superintendent.

    While significant organizational support is available, the Superintendent is expected to be the primary onsite leader and take ownership of the day-to-day execution of the assigned project.

    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial construction Superintendent with restaurant construction experience on the General Contractor side.

    This individual understands how to run a project through subcontractors rather than self-performing the work and is comfortable taking ownership of a project from mobilization through final turnover.

    Successful candidates will be proactive field leaders who can drive schedules, coordinate multiple trades, maintain high quality standards, anticipate problems before they impact the project, communicate effectively with the project team, and consistently deliver successful commercial construction projects.
