Job Description

1st SHIFT - MATERIAL HANDLER (OMAHA PRODUCTION)

4day/10hr Shifts: Mon-Thurs 6:00am - 4:30pm

Mandatory Overtime

We are a well-established, Omaha-based manufacturer with over 65 years of providing quality products to our clients. Phillips Manufacturing is the one-stop shop for drywall finishing accessories, lath, stucco accessories, metal channels, interior framing, and fire-rated assemblies with facilities around the country.

A Material Handler in Steel Performs a wide variety of tasks focused on shipping/receiving, warehousing, maintaining & moving inventory, assembling orders and accurate data reporting. May operate hand and power equipment for material handling to accommodate movement of products throughout production facility.

Essential Functions:

  1. Read work orders or follow oral instructions to determine appropriate materials to be moved.
  2. Operate all forklifts and attached equipment; exhibiting a high level of safe practices at all times to ensure no damage or harm to the operator, other persons, forklift, physical structures, or the product.
  3. Reports mechanical or electric problems to appropriate personnel.
  4. Inventories material on production floor; supplies workers with materials as needed to maintain continuity of operations.
  5. Scans, tracks, records, and communicates material information to appropriate areas, persons, or on appropriate production reports.
  6. Keeps correct pallets, cartons, lifts ready for various operating units.
  7. Banding and warehousing of finished product to specification, as necessary.
  8. Responsible for locating material in plant in accordance with production requirements and transporting locations in the warehouse.
  9. Visually inspect finished goods for proper product, packaging, labels, count, etc, before storing in a location.
  10. Responsible for proper product identification to prevent errors in with data entry and inventory.
  11. Properly labels and tags materials as called for in work orders as required.
  12. Keep work area clean and orderly.
  13. Regular and dependable attendance and punctuality, including being available for overtime whether offered on a voluntary or mandatory basis.
  14. Observe all plant safety rules and regulations, wear proper safety attire at all times.
  15. May perform other duties that are not fundamental to the overall purpose and strategic impact of the job.

Job Specifications: KSA's (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

  • Performs semi-routine job involving some variety of detail and requiring judgment.
  • Ability to obtain and retain knowledge of pertinent occupational safety rules and practices.
  • Ability to reason through problems.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to visually check equipment to detect adjustments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ability to listen and understand directions to adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.

Materials Used: Steel coils, product, lubricants, banding equipment/tools, packaging and unitizing materials.

Tools & Equipment: Operates all plant material handling equipment, pallets, marking equipment, tape measures, scales, banding materials, pneumatic staplers and nailers.

Work Conditions: Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes and limited climate control.

Requirements: Minimum of 2 yrs of Shipping, Warehouse and Inventory Management and Inventory scanning experience, preferred. Forklift Driving experience, required (stand up and/or sit down). Must be able to manually lift/carry product/supplies up to 60 lbs.
