Multisystemic Therapy (MST) Program InternPosition Type: Internship (Part-Time/Full-Time, Flexible Based on Academic Requirements) Location: Community-Based / Office-Based (Hybrid) 

Position Overview: The MST Program Intern will support the delivery and coordination of Multisystemic Therapy (MST), an intensive, evidence-based family therapy model that serves youth and families in home and community settings. This internship offers hands-on experience in community mental health, family systems work, and program development. The intern will work closely with MST therapists and program leadership to enhance service delivery, strengthen community partnerships, and support families throughout their treatment journey. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Program Support & Coordination  

• Assist with scheduling appointments, meetings, and coordination of services for MST therapists and families. 
• Support administrative and organizational tasks to ensure smooth program operations. 

2. Family Engagement & Follow-Up 

• Conduct follow-up calls with families who have successfully discharged from MST services to assess ongoing needs and gather feedback. 
• Collect and document testimonials from families regarding their experiences and outcomes in treatment. 

3. Outreach & Partnership Development 

• Support efforts to strengthen referral partnerships with community providers, schools, and agencies. 
• Assist in conducting outreach on behalf of the program, including attending community events and connecting with stakeholders. 

4. Resource Development & Support 

• Research and compile community-based resources for families (e.g., educational supports, recreational opportunities, basic-needs services). 
• Develop psychoeducational materials and tools for youth and caregivers (e.g., communication skills, coping strategies, routines and structure). 
• Develop/review safety plans regularly.  
• Develop/review treatment plans regularly.   

5. Clinical Exposure & Learning 

• Shadow MST therapists during family sessions (as appropriate and with consent) to gain exposure to evidence-based interventions and family systems work. 
• Participate in team meetings, supervision (when appropriate), and case discussions to deepen understanding of MST principles and practices. 

Learning Objectives: 

• Gain experience in community-based mental health and family therapy models. 

• Develop skills in professional communication, outreach, and stakeholder engagement. 

• Enhance understanding of systems impacting youth (family, school, community, legal). 

• Build competency in resource identification and psychoeducational material development. 

Qualifications: 

Undergraduate Students: 

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field. 

• Preference for students in their junior or senior year, though highly motivated sophomores with relevant experience may be considered.

Graduate Students (Master's Level): 

• Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field. 

• This internship is not clinical and cannot guarantee a specific number of direct client contact hours. 

• Please note: LCSW supervision is not available through this internship. MSW students should consult with their academic program to ensure this placement meets their requirements. 

• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. 

• Interest in working with youth and families in community-based mental health settings. 

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. 

Internship Structure & Commitment: 

• Start Times: Opportunities available for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. 

• Duration Options: 

• One academic semester 

• Full academic year (preferred for continuity and deeper learning) 

• Schedule: Flexible based on academic requirements and program needs; some availability during typical after-school/evening hours may enhance the learning experience. 

Preferred Skills: 

• Experience working with youth or families.  

• Bilingual or multilingual abilities.  

• Interest in trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices.  

Supervision & Support: The intern will receive regular supervision and mentorship from MST program staff, with opportunities for feedback, skill development, and professional growth.
