Job Description
Norfolk Collegiate School seeks a nurturing, energetic, and dependable Prekindergarten Teaching Assistant to support the school's early childhood program. This position works closely with the lead teacher to create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for young learners. The teaching assistant helps facilitate daily classroom activities, supports students' social and emotional development, and assists with classroom management and routines.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children, demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, and be committed to fostering a warm, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in implementing daily classroom activities and lessons
- Assist with supervising and engaging students during classroom instruction, play, and transitions
- Help prepare classroom materials, learning centers, and instructional resources
- Promote positive behavior and support students' social and emotional development
- Assist with classroom organization, cleanliness, and safety
- Help supervise students during recess, lunch, and other school activities
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to maintain a consistent and supportive classroom environment
- Provide additional support to individual students as needed
Qualifications:
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field preferred
- Experience working with young children in a classroom or childcare setting
- Understanding of early childhood development and age-appropriate learning practices
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team
- Patient, flexible, and enthusiastic about supporting young learners
