Job Description
Norfolk Collegiate School seeks an Upper School Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position will primarily teach Chemistry and Biology courses and may include a combination of introductory and advanced sections, depending on experience and departmental needs. The teacher will join a collaborative and supportive science department committed to academic excellence, inquiry-based learning, and student engagement.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching upper school science, demonstrate strong classroom management and communication skills, and be committed to creating a positive and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach upper school Chemistry and Biology courses, including AP-level courses, aligned with departmental curriculum and school standards
- Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based lessons that support diverse learners
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific reasoning
- Assess student learning and provide timely, meaningful feedback
- Collaborate with science department colleagues on curriculum development and instructional strategies
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities as expected
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field required; advanced degree preferred
- Previous experience teaching Chemistry and Biology at the upper school level
- Strong knowledge of subject matter and effective instructional practices
- Commitment to student-centered learning and academic rigor
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Independent school experience is a plus
