Job Description

All Richland Library employees, including all INTERNS, are committed to:

  • Effectively demonstrating characteristics of being energetic, outgoing, and strongly customer-service oriented, including the application of Richland Library’s customer engagement standards.
  • Greeting customers & successfully ascertaining individualized needs and/or requirements for each customer.
  • Engaging, encouraging, and assisting diverse customers in all areas of the Library in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner.

Here are some of the things you would be doing in this position:

  • Leading the 2026 “Summer Break Café program” including complying with USDA food service guidelines.
  • Creating, prepping all needed materials and leading activities for Summer Break Café participants.
  • Assisting with various events during the library’s Summer Learning Challenge.
  • Interacting with children, teens, and families in the library.
  • Assisting the work of staff in their assigned Richland Library location.
  • Moving furnishings, furniture, materials, and equipment.
  • Other associated duties as required or assigned.
  • Assist with End of Summer event Learn Freely Fest – Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Richland Library Main

Requirements:

  • College students currently enrolled at an accredited institution.
  • Excellent computer, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in public library service, especially in providing excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
  • Able to commit from June 1, 2026 - August 9, 2026 plus 8 hours of training May 28 - May 29, 2026

Location, Salary & Hours:

Where: Interns will be assigned to one of the three hosting locations: Richland Library Edgewood, Richland Library North Main or Richland Library St. Andrews

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Hours: 20 hours per week for 10 weeks with a set schedule expected
