Position: Summer Camp Counselor
Department: Youth & Camp
Classification: Seasonal, non-benefitted, At-Will, June 2026 - Aug. 2026
Reports to: Reports to the Youth & Camp Director
Summary:
Under the direction of the Camp & Youth Director, the Camp Counselor will interact with and supervise campers aged 5-15 years old. Camp Counselors will assist with planning and implementing daily camp activities for a group of campers. Work to ensure that the camp operates in a safe manner at all times and ensure the implementation of group activities while creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all. Camp Counselors are expected to uphold, and role model the values of Camp Shalom. Time commitment for this position is 8:30am-5:00pm Monday Through Friday during the months of June-August, additional hours as needed. Must be able to commit to the majority of 9 weeks, June 1st - July 31st, 2026, with the option to remain on through August 14th for Post-Camp August 3rd-14th, 2026.
Areas of Responsibility
- Must have the knowledge of campers' whereabouts at all times.
- Actively facilitates camper development in recreational activities, social skills development, values, multi-cultural and environmental awareness.
- Maintain a positive attitude and conduct with the staff team as a positive role model.
- Assist in development, implementation, and evaluation of daily camp activities.
- Adhere to and enforce camp policies and procedures in a safe manner at all times.
- Attendance at staff meetings and pre-camp training (mandatory)
- Be prompt to all work shifts and assignments adhering to the daily camp schedule and operating calendar.
- Maintains all camp equipment and supplies.
- Care about and give attention to campers' needs.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Camp Leadership.
Ability to work traditional business hours as well as non-traditional hours as business

- Purposeful and coordinated programs that advance Camp and JSV strategic goals, good public relations, sound financial position, and good records systems.
- A positive working environment that allows for creative thinking, positive attitudes, teamwork, and self-development.
