Job Description
- Directly manage and supervise employees in the Folding, Laser, Pemming, Spot Weld, Press Brake, Shakeout, Shipping, Tool Room, Turret, Weld departments at all locations to support published department work schedules.
- Organize and assign work to utilize available team skills, experience, knowledge of equipment and tooling to achieve the best advantages of overall productivity, quality, workmanship, lead-time, and value.
- Maintain acceptable operational costs with effective processing control to identified standards, and controlled person-hours including overtime.
- Provide direction, instruction, training, coaching, and mentoring to all team members as needed under your report.
- Identify, analyze, diagnose (if possible) machine malfunctions, and expedite needed repairs by notifying the maintenance manager and reporting events in maintenance work order software (Dude Solutions).
- Provide feedback information to support Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Account Managers to assist with and/or implement ideas to enhance processing efficiency, simplification, methods or tooling, labor, scheduling, and cost reduction.
- Maintain and promote team adherence and conformance to company policies, rules, and regulations (Employee Handbook).
- Compose employee performance reviews, including goal creation with achievement milestones.
- Assume responsibility for quality of process and team workmanship, efficient material handling and workflow, and order management consistent with manufacturing objectives and performance goals.
- Ensure all employees are properly trained for the job being performed in safety, quality, and knowledge of the processing position and expectations.
- Identify and correct all clocking transactions for your team. Manage, develop, and train as required for successful team clocking transactions.
- Embrace, encourage, and promote lean continuous improvement initiatives and activities.
- Schedule and assemble production meetings and huddles to review manufacturing requirements including schedules, quality expectations, productivity, and processing efficiency.
- Follow, promote, and perform all established Quality procedures and participate in improving team quality performance.
- Perform related duties as assigned and must be flexible to adjust as situation dictates (i.e.) assist with set-ups, inspection, etc. to keep production moving and eliminate down time. This requires a “whatever-it-takes” working attitude.
- Support and participate in the company’s established Youth Apprenticeship (YA) program by following program guidelines, providing training, mentoring apprentices, and promoting safe work practices and workforce development.
- Help the production teams to get off and running at the beginning of each shift. Ensure everyone has received and understands their work instructions, directions and where they are needed for positive contribution.
- Coordinate production plan with colleagues and distribute to each department including priority instruction and expectations.
- Confirm appropriate staffing is applied in all areas to support the production plan.
- Prepare and plan for meetings, interviews, or events on the calendar.
- Review and correct inaccurate data from the previous day including timecards, and follow-up with team member coaching.
- Review and respond timely to emails to support your teammates.
- Handle personnel conflicts appropriately within your scope, utilize HR as needed.
- Spend frequent time on the floor interacting, engaging, supporting, coaching, and mentoring your team.
- Participate in employment candidate interviews as required.
- Observe, assess, and pursue opportunities to improve processing efficiencies.
- Monitor “Live Schedule,” and various other daily reports to effectively react to fluid schedule activity.
- Create a scripted plan for hand-off with direction to support second shift production. Expectations to include contingency considerations.
- Extensive knowledge of fabrication techniques, equipment and tooling applications, raw materials, and utilization of measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing applications and concepts.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Quality Systems, Processes, Standards and Quality Assurance Principles
- Strong supervisory, leadership and team building skills.
- Proficiency in PC software applications (M1, MS Office, etc.)
- Efficient keyboard skills to effectively type 40 WPM. Pursuit of professional training is recommended.
- Read and interpret documents such as policies & procedures, drawings, routings, P.O.’s,
- Communicate effectively with all employees within the organization, promote positive two-way dialog.
- Exercise sound judgment and effective problem solving.
- Lift and carry sheet metal parts weighing 10 lbs. to/from a container, cart, or pallet from floor to 43" and from 43" to 57" repetitively.
- Lift and carry 35 lbs. from floor to 43" and from 43" to 57" for multiple repetitions.
- Occasionally lift and carry 45 lbs. from floor to 43" and from 43" to 57".
- Push and pull metal sheets/parts on a 43" adjustable work surface using up to 45 lbs. of force in forward, lateral, and backward motions.
- Perform reaching activities in forward, backward, and side directions while standing.
- Bend to and from the floor while standing during material handling and setup activities.
- Maintain balance on each leg for 30 seconds.
- Stand and walk for extended periods while performing machine setup, part loading, and inspection activities.
