A Tennessee public school 5th grade math and science teacher delivers integrated, high-quality instruction aligned with the state's academic standards. Core Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery: Teach targeted 5th-grade math (fractions, decimals, volume) and science (matter, ecosystems, Earth systems).
- Standards Alignment: Design lesson plans strictly mapped to the Tennessee Academic Standards for Math and Science.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Guide students through three-dimensional science practices and the 8 mathematical practices.
- Lab & Material Management: Secure, organize, and safely manage materials for hands-on science labs and math manipulatives.
- Differentiated Instruction: Modify assignments to support exceptional learners, IEP/504 plans, and English language learners.
- Assessment & Analytics: Administer benchmark assessments and analyze student performance data to drive targeted interventions.
- Classroom Management: Establish strong, positive routines to maintain an organized and focused learning environment.
- Professional Collaboration: Partner regularly with 5th-grade Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to sync instructional pacing.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Math, Science, or a related field from an accredited university.
- Licensure: Valid teaching license issued by the Tennessee Department of Education.
- Endorsements: Practitioner or Professional license with an Elementary Education (K-5) or Middle Grades (4-8) endorsement.
- Background Check: Successful completion of a state-mandated fingerprinting and criminal background check.
Employment Details
- Schedule: Full-time, 200-day annual contract following the district's school year calendar.
- Evaluation: Monitored and scored annually using the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM) rubric.
- Testing Focus: Accountable for student growth metrics tied to the spring TCAP (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program).
