Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS is seeking a data-driven and culturally responsive 5th Grade Science Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that builds strong scientific understanding and inquiry skills. This role focuses on preparing scholars for middle school science through hands-on exploration, critical thinking, and real-world application.
AMS teachers are collaborative, growth-minded professionals who believe all students can achieve at high levels.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement
Deliver engaging, standards-aligned 5th grade science instruction using AMS curriculum and instructional frameworks.
Implement hands-on, inquiry-based lessons that promote scientific thinking and exploration.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Build foundational knowledge in life, physical, and earth sciences.
Collaboration & Professional Development
Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to improve teaching practices.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and academic excellence.
Family & Community Engagement
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic goals.
Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships.
Scholar Culture & Support
Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.
Create a structured, positive, and engaging classroom environment.
Support student curiosity, independence, and accountability.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:
Demonstrate strong classroom management and instructional skills
Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Demonstrate commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities
Show enthusiasm for STEM education and data-driven instruction
Demonstrate collaboration, initiative, and adaptability
Compensation & Benefits
AMS offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support professional growth and long-term career success.
Salary Range: $44,770 – $50,550 (DOE)
