You will build, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and improve high-temperature industrial systems that directly impact equipment uptime, production quality, and our ability to scale clean critical-metals production.

We are looking for someone with strong mechanical instincts, resourcefulness, and the ability to solve unfamiliar equipment and process challenges using operating data, physical evidence, and sound technical judgment.

This position is based in Burlington, Massachusetts

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, install, commission, operate, maintain, and repair metallization cells and the mechanical and electromechanical systems required to run them safely and reliably.
  • Diagnose equipment and process failures across furnaces, vessels, pumps, motors, piping, seals, cooling systems, material-handling equipment, and related industrial components.
  • Perform precision assembly, alignment, calibration, inspection, and repair of high-power and high-temperature production equipment.
  • Develop a deep working understanding of the metallization process and use equipment condition, operating parameters, material behavior, and production results to identify and resolve problems.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair tooling and production hardware using TIG welding, including learning specialized refractory-metal welding techniques used in Phoenix Tailings' metallization equipment.
  • Use operating data, physical observations, equipment history, and failure evidence to determine root causes and implement practical corrective actions.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance that increases equipment uptime, extends component life, and reduces interruptions to production.
  • Implement equipment modifications and upgrades that improve safety, maintainability, process consistency, and production capability as Phoenix scales its metallization technology.
  • Maintain accurate equipment build records, drawings, schematics, maintenance histories, repair documentation, and technical observations that enable repeatable operation and future system improvements.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as an engineering, mechanical, maintenance, manufacturing, or industrial technician working directly with complex equipment.
  • Strong TIG welding and fabrication skills, with the ability to produce reliable tooling, repairs, and equipment modifications.
  • Demonstrated experience assembling, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex mechanical or electromechanical systems in an industrial, manufacturing, pilot-plant, or R&D environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to diagnose failures using equipment behavior, physical evidence, process information, and incomplete data.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, fabrication drawings, equipment documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial equipment such as machine tools, pumps, motors, piping systems, rigging, seals, furnaces, vessels, or material-handling systems..
  • Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and wearing a respirator and other required personal protective equipment.
