Job Description

Reporting to the Department Head of Humanities, Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies, Music Faculty are responsible

for teaching a variety of introductory and upper-level undergraduate Music courses, including Music Appreciation,

African American Music, Music Theory, and other courses as needed. Teaching flexibility is highly desired.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teaching all levels of undergraduate Music courses. (Adjunct teaching load is up to 9 credit hours per

semester; Adjuncts are not eligible for release time.)

  • Ability to use technology in the classroom as well as the ability to teach online courses as needed.
  • Effectively managing the classroom environment.
  • Developing, maintaining, and submitting accurate, timely, and complete records (attendance, assignments,

grades, end-of-course reports, etc.).

  • Participating in the course and curriculum development.

Education and/or Experience

  • Earned Master's Degree in Music, a Ph.D. in Music, or a graduate-level degree with at least 18 credit hours in

Music. Degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Teaching experience at the university level preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and a strong commitment to cultural diversity.
  • Experience with publishing and/or presenting research preferred.

simultaneously. Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in English.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally), bending, and carrying. Specific

vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and to use

hands and fingers to handle or feel.
