Responsibilities include:

  • Create and sustain a safe work culture,
  • Utilize a combination of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies to optimize overall operational cost,
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure the plant or distribution center operates efficiently, safely and in compliance with all environmental and food safety regulations and guidelines,
  • Establish and adhere to an annual maintenance budget,
  • Coach, mentor and assist in the professional development of others and provide associate recognition,
  • Identify and implement KPIs that will help your team to clearly understand performance expectations and the roles they can assume in improving team performance to meet our goals,
  • Work with manufacturing or distribution department leaders to predict and manage the consequences of failures, and to ensure selected maintenance strategies are optimal for the organization,
  • Facilitate weekly PM planning meetings to ensure parts, tools, materials, human resources, and time are available to execute PM procedures and correct emerging equipment deficiencies,
  • Utilize the preventive maintenance backlog, maintenance performance report, scorecards, and root cause analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and drive the continuous improvement of the PM program,
  • Use downtime reporting, root cause analysis, and labor and repair cost data to identify components and equipment that can be economically upgraded or replaced to improve plant or distribution center reliability,
  • Employ root cause analysis and other processes to engage the maintenance team in problem solving activities aimed at improving equipment reliability and performance,
  • Monitor inventory turns to routinely optimize parts inventory max/mins,
  • Utilize process capacity utilization reports, maintenance and downtime cost data, projected lifecycle cost data, and predictive maintenance techniques to lead the annual development of a plant or distribution center capital equipment replacement plan,
  • Complete maintenance led equipment installations on-time and within budget,
  • Collaborate with project engineers to develop project scopes, equipment specifications, and to define project lead time requirements,
  • Ensure all safety documentation has been created, and LOTO and other safety training has occurred before start-up of new equipment and processes, and
  • Inspect and test new equipment, systems, and installations to ensure contract specifications have been fulfilled.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or its equivalent and vocational/trade school or equivalent technical knowledge
  • At least three years in a maintenance management position
  • Willingness to work a variable schedule to support your team and your plant
  • Ability to travel, including overnight stays and travel by air
  • A track record for establishing high work standards, effectively implementing change, and driving the continuous improvement of a complex maintenance program
  • Experience in developing strategies, systems and methods to adapt maintenance work activities to changing business needs and conditions
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks to support associate safety, food safety, regulatory compliance requirements, associate training, plant or distribution center maintenance requirements, spare parts inventory constraints, and maintenance-led equipment installations
  • Experience in utilizing a CMS (Computerized Maintenance System) to organize and execute a PM plan for a multi-craft team of maintenance technicians and part coordinators
  • Capable of interpreting PM and financial reports and devising action plans based upon the data
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Electrical and mechanical skills, and a demonstrated ability to teach others
  • Experience in defining training needs, identifying training resources, and promoting the ongoing development of maintenance team members
  • Working knowledge of MS Windows, Word and Excel
  • Capable of taking charge in case of emergency situations
  • Ability to absorb new concepts and technology quickly
  • Experience in negotiating with outside contractors and vendors
  • Ability to demonstrate high ethical behavior, and poise in stressful situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well with others across functional boundaries
  • Enthusiasm, initiative and pride in work and a commitment to Publix and our mission
  • Capable of supporting large corporate-led process expansion projects, and execute with plant resources the installation and commissioning of minor equipment
  • Capable of handling confidential or sensitive information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, or a maintenance manager certification
  • Five years of food manufacturing or warehouse maintenance experience
  • Experience in planning and scheduling maintenance activities, leading technicians in effectively executing a complex PM plan, and controlling costs to stay within an annual budget
  • Proficiency in using MS Windows, Word and Excel
