Job Summary
A competent food expediter (a.k.a. expo) helps keep a smooth workflow between the kitchen and the tables and order pickup areas. You will work in a fast-paced environment to get proper orders out faster and more efficiently. As food expeditor, you must have excellent communication skills and experience in a restaurant’s hectic setting. You must have enough stamina to be in constant motion and skills to coordinate and organize processes and people.
The goal is to make service faster and better to help enhance our quality and reputation.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma - or the equivalent (for example, GED)
Knowledge
Customer and Personal Service- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Food Production- Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting food products (both plant and animal) for consumption, including storage/handling techniques.
Public Safety and Security- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
English Language- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Pace and Scheduling- Must be able to keep up with fast-paced environment and workplace demand as needed.
Primary Job Duties
Communicate with customers regarding orders, comments, and complaints. Scrub and polish counters, steam tables, and other equipment, and clean glasses, dishes, and fountain equipment. Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes, to keep equipment and facilities sanitary.
Serve food, beverages, or desserts to customers in such settings as take-out counters of restaurants or lunchrooms.
Clean and organize eating, service, and kitchen areas.
Serve customers in eating places that specialize in fast service and inexpensive carry-out food.
Collect and return dirty dishes to the kitchen for washing.
Wash dishes, glassware, and silverware after meals.
Wrap menu items such as sandwiches, hot entrees, and desserts for serving or for takeout.
Notify kitchen personnel of shortages or special orders.
Select food items from serving or storage areas and place them in dishes, on serving trays, or in take-out bags.
Replenish foods at serving stations.
