Job Description

VBA is seeking a competitive, self-motivated Account Manager to take ownership of a well-established book of business across Central Pennsylvania, supporting employer groups in the under 500 eligible employee segment.  This role blends relationship management, strategic account growth and consultative client service, making it ideal for someone who wants more than just day-to-day service work.

You'll serve as a trusted advisor to both clients and brokers by helping them navigate benefit strategies, optimize plan performance and uncover opportunities to enhance value.

In the first 90 days, success means quickly learning VBA's business and building strong internal and client relationships while taking full ownership of day-to-day account management. By the end of that period, the Account Manager is confidently leading client interactions, managing their book independently and identifying opportunities to improve and grow accounts.

What Sets This Role Apart:

  • True ownership of your book – you're not just servicing accounts, you're managing and growing them
  • Access to decision-makers – work directly with leadership in a collaborative, agile environment
  • Flexibility and speed – ability to solve problems and implement solutions without layers of bureaucracy
  • Client-first culture – strong focus on personalized service as a core differentiator

Starting salary: $70,000-$80,000 base (plus commission)

Essential Functions

  • Accountable for retention and growth of assigned book of business
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned employer groups and broker partners
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to drive retention and satisfaction, including regular client and broker touchpoints (calls, meetings, check-ins) to ensure overall account health and performance
  • Proactively identify and execute upsell and cross-sell opportunities
  • Deliver day-to-day account service by responding to client and broker requests in a timely and accurate manner
  • Manage ongoing service needs and coordinate internally to resolve issues
  • Lead renewals and client strategy through preparing and executing renewal strategies, analyzing plan performance and utilization to inform recommendations
  • Present renewal options and plan enhancements to clients and brokers
  • Support implementation of new groups and plan changes
  • Build and strengthen broker relationships
  • Assist with open enrollment meetings and benefit fairs
  • Perform duties and responsibilities of related lower-level personnel, as assigned or required.

The statements above describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required.

  • Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation and current auto insurance with minimum coverage of $250,000/$500,000.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Industry knowledge in vision, dental or health insurance (carrier or TPA experience preferred)
  • Proficiency with CRM tools, including HubSpot, to effectively track activity, tasks and goals.
