Job Description

Overview:

This role is responsible for executing accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and analysis activities for Closed Block operations, with specialization in Retirement Recordkeeping business. This team member will develop expertise in their respective area while cross-training to provide finance support across our Closed Block business.

This position partners with internal business stakeholders, third-party administrators, auditors, actuaries, and finance leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong controls, and continuous process improvement. The role offers opportunities to participate in strategic initiatives, system enhancements, and accounting projects while contributing to both GAAP and Statutory reporting requirements.

Job Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for Closed Block operations, including both GAAP and Statutory reporting requirements.

  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and timely and support the integrity of financial results.

  • Perform reconciliations of financial statements, settlement statements, reinsurance activity, and related accounting records.

  • Execute financial reporting tasks supporting reporting cycles, controls, management reporting, regulatory filings, and audited financial statements.

  • Deliver independent analysis and interpretation of financial results used with management and appropriate external parties.

  • Build trusted partnerships with third-party administrators and internal stakeholders to reconcile financial information, investigate variances, and resolve accounting issues.

  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting procedures, controls, and reporting processes.

  • Support testing, validation, and implementation of accounting system enhancements, automated accounting feeds, and process improvements.

  • Respond to inquiries and provide financial information to auditors, regulators, insurance examiners, rating agencies, and company leadership.

  • Monitor completion of reporting deliverables and ensure deadlines are consistently achieved.

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting capabilities.

  • Collaborate with Finance, Actuarial, Risk, Operations, and Technology teams on closed block initiatives, special projects, or emerging requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with knowledge of general GAAP accounting principles in order to apply correct financial statement treatment.

  • General understanding of statutory insurance accounting principles / financial reporting.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial results.

  • Proven organization and planning skills to direct/coordinate numerous activities for internal and external financial statement production and distribution.

  • Communication skills to respond to questions and provide quality service to business and other stakeholders.

  • Leadership skills to execute activities for certain special projects.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Insurance industry accounting experience.

  • Experience with reinsurance accounting and reporting.

  • Understanding of retirement recordkeeping products and operations.

  • Experience supporting system implementations, accounting automation, or process improvement initiatives.

  • CPA or progress toward CPA designation.

  • Internal Securian Financial job title for this position is Financial Reporting Sr. Analyst. (P2) or Financial Reporting Consultant (P3) *

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$73,700.00 - $136,800.00
