ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT - ICLRS (Part-Time 17.5 hrs/wk)

The International Center for Law and Religion Studies is a global academic leader in the field of international religious freedom. Founded in 2000, the Center is part of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, one of the largest private universities in the United States. Scholars at the International Center for Law and Religion Studies specialize in comparative and international law concerning religion. The Center partners with leading academic, governmental, and non-governmental institutions around the world to organize conferences and workshops. The purpose of these conferences is to foster respectful understanding and improve expertise at the critical intersection where law and religion meet.
WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS POSITION
The Accounting Assistant supports the Center’s financial operations. This part-time role works closely with Center leadership and the Law School Controller’s Office to ensure accurate, timely, and policy-compliant processing of payments, reimbursements, and event-related expenses.
Key Responsibilities
Process payments and reimbursements for students, contractors, and conference participants
Assist with independent contractor pre-approvals and invoice processing
Submit spend authorizations and reconcile credit card statements and invoices
Manage financial transactions related to Center events, travel, and publications
Maintain organized financial records and documentation
Support budget tracking, financial reporting, and month-/year-end processes
Serve as a resource on University financial policies and procedures
WHAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS ROLE?
Required:
Associate’s degree and at least 1 year of accounting/finance experience
Knowledge of basic accounting principles
Strong spreadsheet skills
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Commitment to confidentiality and integrity
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of related experience.

TYPICAL STARTING WAGE: $22.50 to $29.25/hour, DOQ
