Job Description

Accounting & Payroll SpecialistCascadia Global Security (CGS), a Deus X Defense companyLocation: Kent, WA (National Support Office) Employment Type: Full-time, exempt Schedule: Monday through Friday, in-office Salary: $55,000 to $75,000 DOE Benefits: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision, plus complimentary life insuranceAbout the roleWe need someone who looks at a process and cannot help asking why we do it that way.You will own accounts payable and payroll, and you will be a key contributor on general and month-end accounting for a family of companies that is scaling fast. You get the latitude to fix what is broken instead of working around it, and a clear path to owning more of the process as you prove it out.If your desire is to become a controller, FP&A analyst, or move into another leadership position, we will give you the room, support, and guidance to create that opportunity here.About usCascadia Global Security is a veteran-owned security services company headquartered in Kent, Washington, protecting clients nationwide.Deus X Defense, our parent company, is a security technology company specializing in drone-based security monitoring with plans to expand into robots and other cutting-edge monitoring equipment. It pairs autonomous aerial systems with human expertise to cover ground that traditional patrols cannot. This position sits uniquely in shared services, supporting the entire family of companies. That is the best part of the job. You will see how a services business and a technology business each run their books, and you will build financial processes that work for both. Very few accountants at this stage of a career get that kind of range.Accounts payable and payrollThese functions are yours to own.
  • Process AP end to end in Ramp, including vendor setup, coding, approvals, and payment runs
  • Administer the corporate card program in Ramp
  • Run payroll in Paycom, bi-weekly for hourly employees and semi-monthly for salaried employees
  • Research and resolve payroll and vendor issues before they become fire drills
General and month-end accountingYou will be a key contributor here rather than the owner on day one. The close is where you will grow, and we want someone who intends to take on more of it.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and prepaid schedules
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts
  • Support month-end close alongside our third-party accounting firm
  • Build cash flow projections in conjunction with the Controller, VP, and President
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of multi-state sales and use tax filings using integrated automation software.
Process and improvementThis is what separates a good fit from a great one.
  • Find the manual, repetitive work in your own week and eliminate it
  • Get more out of Ramp and Paycom than we do today, and help evaluate and implement new systems as we grow
  • Build and improve reporting that leadership actually uses
  • Bring us problems along with proposed fixes. "That is how we have always done it" is not a real answer.
Where it goes from here
  • As volume grows, oversee continued automation and efficiency, improving the accounting department’s performance and bandwidth without increasing any individual’s workload.
  • Cross-train across entities so you understand the full financial picture, not just your lane
  • Grow into the close, into systems ownership, and help shape whatever the next version of this department needs
What we are looking forRequired:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on accounting experience
  • At least one year of accounting experience in AP, payroll, general ledger, or reconciliations
  • Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and cleaning up messy data
  • Accuracy and follow-through. You catch your own mistakes, and you close your own loops.
  • Able to work in-office in Kent, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional travel, less than 10% of the time, to meet with teams in Texas and Arizona.
Preferred:
  • Experience with Ramp, Paycom, QuickBooks, or comparable AP, payroll, or ERP platforms is a plus.
  • Multi-entity or shared services accounting exposure
  • Month-end close experience
  • A track record of automating or redesigning a process. Excel macros, Power Query, SQL, BI dashboards, or even a checklist that saved the team three hours a month all count.
  • Experience preparing and filing multi-state sales tax returns, or equivalent hands-on exposure to state and local tax compliance.
We think this role fits well for someone with a background in accounting, finance, operations, or analytics who is looking for a career-defining challenge. The mindset that succeeds hereYou are organized without being rigid. You ask questions early rather than guessing. You would rather spend two hours building something that saves ten than spend ten hours doing it by hand. And when a coworker is buried before a payroll deadline, you pick up the phone, even if it is a Tuesday evening, because you know they would do the same for you.Working hereWe take the work seriously. We do not take ourselves too seriously.Focused hours, real evenings. We would rather you work hard between 9 and 5 and then go live your life. Close weeks and payroll deadlines occasionally run long, and every so often a teammate needs a hand outside normal hours. That is the exception here, not the culture.A relaxed office. Open doors, nobody hovering, nobody measuring your worth in hours logged. There is a lot of laughing. Deadlines still get hit.Real ownership. You will not be handed a task list and left there. You will be asked what you think, and when you are right, we will change how we do it. When you are wrong, we will talk about why.We are growing nationwide across multiple companies. If you prefer to do the same process day in and day out while following the same SOP written 3 years ago, this job is probably not for you. If you want to be challenged and drive change, this might be a great opportunity.
