Job Description
Essential Functions:
Own first‑line review and approval of recurring close entries, including variable revenue, metered power, utility accruals, and related adjustments.
Lead New / Change cutoff reviews, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely inclusion in the close.
Perform first‑level variance analysis, investigate drivers, and prepare clear explanations and supporting documentation.
Review reconciliations, schedules, and workpapers prior to escalation for Director‑level exception review.
Serve as the designated owner for key accounting and billing‑related controls, including recurring close controls and billing input validations.
Ensure control documentation and evidence are complete, accurate, and audit‑ready.
Identify control gaps, recurring issues, and process risks; recommend and implement corrective actions.
Support SOX compliance, internal audits, and external audit requests related to assigned processes.
Act as the primary reviewer within a two‑tier review model with the Director of Global Utility Accounting.
Implement and maintain standardized review checklists and documentation standards across billing and close activities.
Partner with Energy Management, Billing, FP&A, Operations, and IT to resolve data or process issues impacting billing and revenue recognition.
Serve as the primary accounting escalation point for routine operational issues, freeing senior leadership from day‑to‑day troubleshooting.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and review support to senior accountants and analysts.
Support billing readiness by ensuring utility‑ and usage‑dependent accounting inputs are reviewed and cleared on schedule.
Qualifications:
At least six (4) years of management experience
At least six (6) years of progressive accounting experience, including complex billing, utilities, or variable revenue environments.
Strong experience with month‑end close, variance analysis, reconciliations, and internal controls.
Demonstrated ability to operate as a review owner, not solely a preparer.
Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing deadlines.
Must be highly proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education: This position requires a Bachelors’ degree in Accounting or Finance
Certifications: CPA / CMA / CA or equivalent certifications preferred.
Physical and Mental requirements: This position will require extended hours especially around month and year end close.
