Job Summary

The Accounting Manager – Global Lease Accounting ensures the accuracy and completeness of lease abstraction and lease accounting processes for North American projects. This role reviews lease abstracts, evaluates complex lease accounting matters, validates calculations including straight-line and percentage rent, and supports operating expense reconciliations. The position provides leadership and mentorship to Staff and Senior Accountants while ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

Lease Abstraction & Administration

• Review lease abstracts for new leases and amendments in accordance with department standards

• Interpret lease agreements and apply appropriate accounting treatment

• Evaluate lease provisions, options, and modifications

• Draw conclusions on complex lease accounting matters and coordinate with auditors as needed

Financial Review & Calculations

• Review straight-line rent entries and provide feedback or corrections

• Validate percentage rent calculations based on tenant sales reports

• Review annual operating expense reconciliations and supporting documentation

• Oversee rent start letter preparation across product types

• Address tenant inquiries and support documentation during tenant audits

Reporting & Support

• Assist Controller with ad hoc schedules and reporting needs

• Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures

• Step in to prepare tasks during peak workload periods

Leadership & Team Development

• Provide guidance and mentorship to Staff and Senior Accountants

• Lead and support a geographically dispersed team

• Promote collaboration, accuracy, and process consistency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution

• CPA certification preferred

• Minimum 4 years of professional accounting experience

• Public accounting experience beneficial

• Commercial real estate experience strongly preferred

• Previous supervisory experience required

• Strong knowledge and application of GAAP

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Advanced spreadsheet and analytical skills

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

• High attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume workloads

• Willingness to work overtime as business needs require
