Job Description

Quantum Space is redefining mobility and maneuverability in space. Our high-mobility spacecraft platforms support national security, civil, and commercial missions with unmatched flexibility and propulsion capability. We build fast and iterate quickly.

Who We're Looking For

As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to help lead our accounting operations, strengthen our financial reporting and internal control environment, and support the unique requirements of operating as a government contractor in a publicly traded environment.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager who is equally comfortable managing the details of the monthly close and tackling complex accounting and compliance matters.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in U.S. GAAP, meaningful experience within the government contracting industry, and experience working in or supporting a publicly traded company. This person will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, supporting SEC reporting requirements, and ensuring compliance with government contracting regulations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants significant ownership and visibility within a fast-growing aerospace and defense organization.

Where You'll Make an Impact

  • Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, estimates, and supporting schedules.

  • Manage and review project accounting activities, including contract setup, revenue recognition, billing, labor distribution, and indirect cost allocations.

  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.

  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and disclosures required for SEC reporting, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K.

  • Support compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, including the development, documentation, testing, and remediation of internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors and support quarterly reviews, annual financial statement audits, and SOX testing.

  • Ensure accounting practices comply with applicable government contracting requirements, including FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements.

  • Monitor indirect cost pools and allocation bases and assist with the development and analysis of provisional and actual indirect rates.

  • Support incurred cost submissions, government audits, and other contract compliance activities.

  • Review contract accounting matters, including revenue recognition under ASC 606, contract assets, contract liabilities, and estimates at completion where applicable.

  • Maintain strong controls over labor charging, timekeeping, project accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, billing, and other areas affecting government contract compliance.

  • Partner with program managers, FP&A, contracts, operations, and executive leadership to provide meaningful financial and project-level reporting.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, shorten the close cycle, automate manual processes, and strengthen financial controls.

  • Support the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures appropriate for a growing publicly traded government contractor.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members while maintaining a hands-on approach to accounting operations.

  • Assist with technical accounting research and preparation of accounting memoranda for significant or unusual transactions.

  • Support mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, system implementations, and other strategic initiatives as needed.

What It Takes

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a government contracting environment.

  • 2+ years of accounting management or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience working for or supporting a publicly traded company strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

  • Working knowledge of SEC reporting and SOX 404/internal control requirements.

  • Strong understanding of government contracting accounting and compliance requirements, including FAR, CAS, DCAA, indirect rates, and cost accounting.

  • Experience with project-based accounting and government contract revenue recognition.

  • Strong understanding of the monthly and quarterly financial close process.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work with large and complex financial data sets.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across finance, operations, programs, and executive leadership.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • CPA or active CPA candidate.

  • Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint.

  • Previous experience in the aerospace, defense, or government technology industry.

  • Experience supporting SEC filings, external audits, and SOX compliance.

  • Experience with DCAA audits, incurred cost submissions, indirect rate development, and government contract compliance.

  • Experience implementing or improving ERP systems, accounting processes, and internal controls.

  • Experience in a high-growth or entrepreneurial environment.
