Accounting Manager

Our client is seeking an Accounting Manager to strengthen and help lead its accounting department. This is a hands-on management position for an accounting professional who can effectively lead a team while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day accounting functions of the department.

The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of progressive accounting experience, along with prior experience managing or supervising accounting personnel. This individual will be responsible for overseeing departmental operations, prioritizing workloads, ensuring deadlines and goals are met, and maintaining a high level of accuracy and accountability while also performing and reviewing accounting functions as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Responsibilities

• Remain actively involved in the department's day-to-day accounting functions.
• Perform, oversee, and review accounting activities.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure timely completion.
• Review accounting work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established procedures.
• Analyze accounts and transactions and assist with identifying and resolving discrepancies.
• Help maintain appropriate accounting controls, processes, and procedures.
• Participate in special accounting projects and other financial initiatives as needed.

Management & Leadership Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day management, oversight, and direction for the accounting department.
• Supervise, support, and hold accounting staff accountable for their responsibilities and performance.
• Prioritize departmental workload and allocate resources appropriately to ensure deadlines and goals are consistently achieved.
• Monitor workflow and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and processes.
• Establish clear expectations and follow up to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
• Work closely with executive management and provide appropriate updates regarding departmental performance, priorities, and challenges.
• Support the professional development and growth of accounting team members.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Previous experience supervising or managing accounting personnel strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Leadership mindset with a genuine desire to continue developing professionally.
