Job Description

Accounting ManagerThe Accounting Manager supervises the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing functions. This position manages the closing process and maintains a system of internal controls to ensure assets are safeguarded, billings and collections are accurate, and all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States and university policies and procedures.Candidates will be invited to demonstrate a willingness to support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.Benefits Include:

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:Supervises accounting staff and accounting functions (e.g., Accounts receivable, accounts payable, journal entries), including bank and other account reconciliations; the maintenance of the general ledger; and the development, maintenance, and monitoring of accounting policies and procedures.Supports the preparation of financial statements, accounting reports, and other accounting materialsSupports external audits, 990 and other financial related compliance filings by gathering and preparing necessary reports and other materials for auditorsEnsures compliance with the state, federal and regulatory agencies reporting guidelinesA/P Review and check disbursements

A/R (non-student) Review and receipt processing

Performs other related duties as requested and assigned

Desired Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience include:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Required: A minimum of 7 years of related experience in an accounting field with leadership responsibilities
Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential
Upholds and supports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities.
Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Financial Affairs and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ.

Knowledge and Skills Required:Possess a high degree of tact, discretion, and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations and individualsAbility to supervise and to develop a team of accounting professionalsAbility to work independently and with a team of colleaguesAbility to set priorities and exercise sound judgement in a fast-paced environmentAbility to understand, interpret, explain, and apply rules and policies applicable to areas of responsibilityStrong organizational, verbal, and written communication skillsAbility to prepare clear, accurate, and concise correspondence, records, reports, and other documentsExpertise with Microsoft Office software applications, especially ExcelPreferably proficient with the Jenzabar database and/or other accounting softwareWe thank you for your interest in the University of Mary.
