Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our accounting team. This full-time, in-office role will focus on reviewing, reconciling, and processing vendor invoices for multiple entities. Additionally, this role will be involved in preparing reconciliations, workpapers, and schedules, assisting with financial statement preparation in accordance with GAAP, and supporting management with financial data requests. This position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a proactive approach to process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Improvement: Maintain and support transition toward paperless workflow and automated payment processing with Accounts Payable.
- Accounting and Financial Statements: Assist in coordinating, preparing, and reviewing daily accounting functions and financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Transaction Processing: Review, reconcile, and process vendor invoices for multiple locations/entities. Process weekly invoice payments according to schedules and due date. Maintain vendor records and resolve invoice discrepancies or payment issues. Prepare and maintain accounting transactions to ensure accuracy in all financial records.
- Reconciliations and Work Papers: Prepare and maintain accurate work papers and schedules, general ledger account reconciliations, and other documentation as required.
- Special Projects: Coordinate and assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Provide financial information and guidance to management and property teams as needed, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- Experience: 3 or more years of accounting experience, with real estate accounting preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required; familiarity with MRI, RentPayment, Sage 100, or Lumber Track is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting functions, GAAP, and general financial principles.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong research and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to evaluate data, identify trends, and resolve issues.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with team members and departments.
