Adjunct, Graphic Design

Position Summary and Qualifications:

Saint Joseph's University's Department of Art & Art History has a need for highly qualified adjunct faculty to teach Graphic Design courses on a semester-by-semester basis. Likely assignments include introductory and intermediate graphic design courses, depending on departmental needs.

Part-time adjunct faculty will teach assigned graphic design courses, support student learning, and foster an inclusive, studio-focused classroom environment. Course assignments may vary each semester and encompass a range of design topics, with the expectation that instructors bring contemporary professional insight and pedagogical clarity to the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching assigned graphic design course(s)

  • Preparing course materials, assignments, and assessments

  • Providing guidance, feedback, and mentorship to students

  • Holding regular office hours

  • Reporting mid-semester and final grades electronically

  • Using Canvas or another learning management system

  • Maintaining consistent communication with students

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participating in occasional meetings with the Department Chair or program faculty

  • Collaborating with course coordinators to ensure curricular consistency and quality

  • Supporting departmental goals related to student learning and engagement

Minimum Requirements:

  • MFA in Graphic Design or a closely related field OR equivalent professional experience.

  • Professional experience in graphic design, visual communication, or related creative industries.

  • Proficiency with industry-standard software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior college-level teaching experience

  • Flexibility and responsiveness in adapting course content to meet the needs of students with varied backgrounds

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Professional or teaching experience in UX, interaction design, or digital design.
