Summary of Essential Functions:

  • Serve in the role of classroom instructor for the Young People's Studios program for enrollment pending Kindergarten to 5th grade classes in Summer Art Camp with the ability to teach Saturday Fall and Spring semesters

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Deliver art and design content to youth through classroom instruction

  • Prepare and submit a syllabus within stated deadlines

  • Prepare supply order within stated budget and deadlines

  • Greet students and families warmly, assisting with any questions or concerns

  • Exercise classroom management, interventions and support as needed

  • Prepare students and student work for the end of session art show and presentations

  • Maintain accurate attendance records each class period

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate art content (painting, drawing, and mixed media etc).

  • Skills in materials and tools specific to the course

  • Ability to deliver scaffolded content to a variety of learners, and adapt to individual needs

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Demonstrated years of experience teaching in the K-5 elementary art classroom

  • Certifications/licenses: MSDE certification in Art Pre-K-12, CTE or other relevant area

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters in Art Education or Teaching

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $4,515.00 - $7,656.00 Commensurate with experience and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The part-time faculty are represented by the SEIU Local 500.

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position)

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

  • Required training: Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
