Job Description

Wilkes University invites applications for an adjunct instructor to teach Organic Chemistry in Fall 2026, with the opportunity to continue teaching in Spring 2027.

The position primarily involves teaching the organic chemistry lecture sequence for science majors. Organic Chemistry I introduces structure, bonding, reactivity, and spectroscopic methods, while Organic Chemistry II emphasizes synthesis and reaction mechanisms.

Courses are taught in person and follow a structured, fast-paced format that includes regular assessments, cumulative exams, and preparation for the ACS standardized final exam. Instructors are expected to engage students actively and support strong student performance.

Additional teaching opportunities (including laboratory or service courses) may be available but are not required.

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in chemistry or a closely related field is required; candidates with significant relevant professional experience in organic chemistry will also be considered
  • Ph.D., ABD candidates, and individuals with relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply
  • Prior teaching experience preferred

Compensation is based on contact hours, with opportunities for multiple sections.
