Purpose:The School of Nursing is seeking dynamic, experienced, and student-focused individuals to serve as Adjunct Nursing Faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings. Adjunct faculty play a critical role in supporting our mission to educate students to become professional, caring, competent nurses who are prepared to integrate personal faith with the discipline of nursing while engaging in Christian service within a diverse world. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications, role, and experience.The School of Nursing provides a baccalaureate program. The nursing faculty view nursing as a Christian ministry and a professional practice. During nursing courses, students learn to provide quality nursing care through competent professional practice. Upon completion of the program, the student is qualified to take the national examination for licensure, as a registered nurse.
Essential Functions:
TEACHING NURSING CLASSROOM, LAB, AND/OR CLINICALS
Traditional Class Responsibilities: Accept assignments for classes consistent with the faculty member's experience and expertisePlan directed learning activities to assist students in mastery of content on learning guides Formulate test items in an online testing format to evaluate student's mastery of contentEvaluate course effectiveness Manage courses in CanvasDevelop, update, and disseminate syllabi according to program requirements
Online & Hybrid Class Responsibilities: Design and deliver online or hybrid courses using the institution’s learning management system - CanvasEngage students in virtual learning environments using video conferencing, discussion boards, multimedia content, and digital assessment tools Maintain active online presence and provide regular virtual office hours and communication
Clinical Responsibilities:Assist in arranging orientation periods to the clinical agency
Be on site with students during the clinical class periodCommunicate with agency staff regarding student competencies and responsibilities Communicate with floor managers and staff regarding student experiences and performanceAssign patients for student's delivery of nursing care Evaluate clinical sites with agency staff, faculty, and student responsesCommunicate with faculty teaching other sections of the course to compare student performance and experiences
Skills Lab Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and facilitate hands-on skills lab sessions aligned with curriculumDemonstrate nursing procedures and ensure students acquire psychomotor skills in a safe, supportive environment Supervise student practice of essential nursing skills such as medication administration, wound care, IV insertion, catheterization, and vital sign assessmentProvide immediate feedback and remediation as needed during skill acquisition Ensure skills lab equipment and supplies are properly maintained, cleaned, and stockedCollaborate with lab coordinator or full-time faculty to develop skills checklists and performance rubrics Promote adherence to infection control and safety protocols in the lab settingSimulation Lab Responsibilities:
Facilitate high- and low-fidelity simulation scenarios to reflect real-world clinical situations Operate-related simulation technologyGuide students through pre-briefing, simulation, and structured debriefing sessions to reinforce clinical reasoning, teamwork, and communication Assess student performance in simulated environments and document learning outcomesCollaborate with other faculty and simulation staff to revise and improve simulation experiences based on student needs and feedback Ensure simulations meet programmatic and accreditation standards for experiential learningRequired Qualifications:Master of Science in Nursing for Classroom Bachelor of Science in Nursing for ClinicalsCurrent, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oklahoma Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse Ability to communicate clearly and effectively Demonstrates strong interpersonal skillsDemonstrates strong teaching skills Ability to assess student ability and adjust teaching as appropriateAbility to advise students Ability to use learning management systems effectivelyAbility to effectively use online education delivery methods if course delivery is online Ability to relate to colleagues in the OBU communityAbility to serve as a representative to the professional community beyond OBU Proficiency in the use of computer software and hardwareProficiency in the use of classroom audio/visual equipment Sufficient mobility and physical stamina to walk about the campus/clinical site; to travel to local, regional, and national locations; and transport moderately heavy items to offices and classrooms.
Preferred Qualifications:PhD, EdD, or DNP in Nursing in Classroom Master of Science in Nursing for ClinicalsTeaching experience
