Job Description

Job Title: Adjunct Teaching - Asian & Near Eastern Languages - Arabic (ARAB 495)

Posting End Date:  March 14, 2026

Position Start Date: April 28, 2026

Required Degree: MA Degree in Arabic language, linguistics, literature, pedagogy, or a related field.

The required degree must be completed by the start date. 

Experience:

  • Experience teaching Arabic as a second language, preferably at the college level.
  • Advanced proficiency in English
  • Proficiency in computer-based software, including Microsoft Office and internet applications.
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as BYU's Learning Suite, or the ability to learn such systems quickly.
  • Willingness to participate in training and professional development in language pedagogy and second-language acquisition.
  • Familiarity with language-proficiency assessment criteria and experience developing fair and accurate testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory and language-teaching pedagogy to develop curriculum materials and lesson plans, particularly in contexts where commercially published instructional materials are limited.

Duties/Expectations:

  • Teach ARAB 495.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to support student learning and reinforce course content.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and implement recommendations for instructional improvement.
  • Develop a course syllabus and upload course materials to BYU Learning Suite.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to communications and assignments from the Asian & Near Eastern Languages Department.
