JOB SUMMARY
Direct and supervise all hospital service functions and activities during evening, night, weekend hours throughout the hospital. The Administrative Supervisor assumes delegated authority for all operational issues in the absence of Department Manger throughout the organization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to Position Description Registered Nurse
- Holds staff at all levels accountable for decisions and responsibility for quality patient care and hospital operations on respective shift.
- Provides clinical and administrative leadership on respective shift.
- Provides for continuity and supervision through appropriate delegation.
- Evaluates staff members on a regular basis, based on established standards and provides feedback to Managers regarding staff competency.
- Determines learning needs of staff and collaborates with Managers in coordination with Staff Development Coordinator to plan appropriate action - Provides appropriate follow-up to staff regarding quality care.
- Administers and enforces personnel policies and practices equitably.
- Provides for proper utilization of personnel based on assessed needs of the patient population and competencies and abilities of staff.
- Promotes cost containment through appropriate use of physical and material resources.
- Acts as a liaison to Hospital administration.
- Communicates with Vice President of Patient Care Services re: Identified needs, problems and follow up.
- In absence of Administration communicates with media when indicated, following established guidelines.
- Responsible to communicate significant events to Administration, (President, Vice President of Patient Care Services)
- Interacts/communicates with all departments as appropriate.
- Provides counseling and disciplining of staff as required and follow through with Managers.
- Participates as an active member of the Nursing Management Committee and other committees as appropriate.
- Investigates patient/visitor/employee incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Current unrestricted license as an RN in the State of Vermont.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or related field desirable.
- Demonstrates knowledge and clinical competence in clinical areas of responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership.
- Active participation in continuing education and committee process.
- BLS and ACLS
- Three years of nursing experience required. One year of experience at UVMHN/Porter Medical Center preferred.
