Job Description
Position Summary: Custom Manufacturing & Engineering (CME) is seeking an AI / Data Science Intern to support the development and implementation of a production scanning and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) system. This role will work on real-world machine learning applications tied directly to manufacturing operations, helping improve automation and data accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in testing and validating OCR and machine learning outputs
- Clean, organize, and label datasets to improve model performance
- Support development of automated workflows within production processes
- Analyze system performance and recommend improvements
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, or related field
- Familiarity with Python or similar programming language
- Exposure to machine learning concepts or tools preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Compensation & Schedule:
- Hourly rate based on academic year:
- Freshman: $16.00/hour
- Sophomore: $17.00/hour
- Junior: $18.00/hour
- Senior: $19.00/hour
- Full-time summer internship (10–12 weeks, ~40 hours/week)
- Opportunity for future full-time employment based on performance
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in a relevant field
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Other Requirements:
- CME positions require access to controlled goods under ITAR/EAR regulations; applicants must be "U.S. Persons" as defined by these regulations.
- Compliance with U.S. federal law requires verification of identity and work eligibility; CME cannot employ individuals who do not meet these criteria, including those on student or temporary work visas.
- Completion of Predictive Index Assessments.
