AI / Data Science Intern

Position Summary: Custom Manufacturing & Engineering (CME) is seeking an AI / Data Science Intern to support the development and implementation of a production scanning and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) system. This role will work on real-world machine learning applications tied directly to manufacturing operations, helping improve automation and data accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in testing and validating OCR and machine learning outputs
• Clean, organize, and label datasets to improve model performance
• Support development of automated workflows within production processes
• Analyze system performance and recommend improvements
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams

Qualifications:

• Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, or related field
• Familiarity with Python or similar programming language
• Exposure to machine learning concepts or tools preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Compensation & Schedule:

• Hourly rate based on academic year:
• • Freshman: $16.00/hour
  • Sophomore: $17.00/hour
  • Junior: $18.00/hour
  • Senior: $19.00/hour
• Full-time summer internship (10–12 weeks, ~40 hours/week)
• Opportunity for future full-time employment based on performance

Eligibility Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
• Pursuing a degree in a relevant field
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Other Requirements:

• CME positions require access to controlled goods under ITAR/EAR regulations; applicants must be "U.S. Persons" as defined by these regulations.
• Compliance with U.S. federal law requires verification of identity and work eligibility; CME cannot employ individuals who do not meet these criteria, including those on student or temporary work visas.
• Completion of Predictive Index Assessments.
