Position Summary:

This Is an AI-First Role

Reef is looking for an AI DevOps Engineer who builds, ships, and supports the systems that power Reef. This isn't a "write Terraform all day" role and it isn't a "stay in your IDE" role - it's both, plus everything in between. You'll own the full lifecycle of our internal applications: building features, deploying them, keeping them running, and supporting the people who use them every day.

At Reef, AI isn't a side project or an innovation lab experiment. It's how we build. Our AI assistant is a core member of the technology team - she writes code, monitors systems, builds dashboards, runs data pipelines, and handles routine tasks every single day. Your job is to work alongside her: reviewing her output, deploying to production, building what she can't, and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

Beyond day-to-day collaboration, you'll help build out the framework for AI agents across Reef, such asdesigning how autonomous agents are deployed, managed, and governed as we scale AI into more of our operations. This means architecting agent infrastructure, defining guardrails, building integrations, and making sure our AI capabilities grow responsibly and effectively.

If you've been experimenting with AI coding assistants, building with LLM APIs, deploying agents, or automating workflows with tools like OpenClaw, Cursor, or similar, you'll thrive here. If AI is something you've been meaning to investigate, this role will move too fast.

What You'll Work on First

One of your first major projects will be the ReefAccess Frontend Modernization - a full rebuild of our investor-facing portal. ReefAccess is Reef's primary touchpoint for every investor in our funds. Today it runs on aging technology (React 16, Material-UI v4, Redux 3, Webpack) with a 328,000-line codebase that's overdue for a modern overhaul.

This isn't a greenfield vanity project. It's a production application with real users, real money, and real complexity- 8 frontend bundles serving investors, vendors, borrowers, and staff across a Django backend integrated with Salesforce, Xero, DocuSign, SharePoint, and more.

The modernization includes:

  • Rebuilding the frontend in Next.js/React 19 with a modern component library (shadcn/ui + Tailwind)
  • Migrating from Heroku to AWS (ECS Fargate, CloudFront, RDS) with full Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Implementing SSO via Microsoft Entra ID for internal users and MFA (Twilio + Authenticator) for external users
  • Delivering an investor experience on par with best-in-class platforms like Agora including portfolio visualizations, clean typography, responsive design that reflects a premium brand
  • Working alongside our AI assistant throughout - she'll generate components, write migrations, and draft infrastructure. You'll review, refine, and deploy.

Responsibilities:

Additional general responsibilities and work that you will own can be expected to fall into the following categories:

AI Agent Framework

  • Design and build the infrastructure for deploying AI agents across Reef - how they run, how they connect to our systems, how they'remonitored and governed.
  • Extend and maintain skills, automations, and integrations that power our AI assistant.
  • Evaluate and integrate new AI tools, models, and patterns as the landscape evolves.
  • Define guardrails, logging, and audit patterns so agents operate safely at scale.

Applications

  • ReefAccess: Django/Python investor portal. Frontend modernization to Next.js, AWS migration, SSO/MFA implementation, and ongoing feature work.
  • Reef Ledger: Next.js/React internal operations dashboard. Entity management, org charts, financial data visualization.
  • New apps as needed: Reef builds internal tools when off-the-shelf doesn't cut it. You'llwork to architect and build them.

Data & Pipelines

  • Snowflake: Our analytics warehouse. Salesforce, Brokermint, and Xero data lands here via Fivetran and custom pipelines.
  • Dagster Cloud: Orchestration layer for ETL jobs. You'll own pipeline reliability and build new assets as data sources grow.
  • AWS Data Lake: Storage and processing layer feeding Snowflake. S3 buckets, Lambda functions, data ingestion.

AWS & Infrastructure as Code

  • Own and evolve Reef's AWS environment- ECS Fargate for containers, CloudFront for CDN, RDS for databases, S3 for storage, Lambda for serverless workloads.
  • Build and maintain all infrastructure using Terraform - every environment (dev, staging, production) is defined in code, version-controlled, and reproducible.
  • Manage networking, security groups, IAM roles, and access policies. You're the person who knows what's running, where, and why.
  • Drive the migration of legacy Heroku services to AWS with zero downtime and clear rollback plans.
  • Set up monitoring, alerting, and cost management- CloudWatch, billing alerts, right-sizing recommendations.

Identity & Security

  • Microsoft Entra ID / M365: SSO, app registrations, Graph API integrations. You'll be the technical owner of our identity stack.
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions, container deployments, Terraform plans. You own the build-test-deploy chain.

End-User Support

  • You're not just building, you're supporting. When an executive can't log in, when data looks stale, when a dashboard breaks - you fix it and make sure it doesn't happen again.
  • Triage issues from Jira, work with the Technology team, and close the loop with users directly.
  • Write documentation in Confluence, so common issues don't keep coming back to you.

Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with AI development tools using LLM-powered assistants, AI coding tools, or agent frameworks in your actual workflow, not just demos
  • 5+ years building and deploying web applications in production; exposure to the finance industry would be a plus
  • Experience building or deploying AI agents (OpenClaw, LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or custom) is preferred
  • Previous experience with technology project management
  • Proven experience using Python and JavaScript/Node.js, AWS
  • Exposure to HTML/CSS, Typescript, SQL is a plus
  • Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse experience is preferred

Company Benefits:

  • 401(k) Plan with Company Match
  • Generous Health Plan with HSA Match
  • Flexible Paid Time-off
  • Daily Company Lunches
  • Cell Phone Service Allowance
  • Discounts at Company-owned Resorts and Golf Courses
