Job Description

We are seeking a visionary and execution-focused leader to serve as the Advisor of AI Risk Governance (First Line Risk), responsible for establishing and leading a best-in-class governance framework for Artificial Intelligence across the enterprise. This first line advisor role embeds responsible AI governance across the full AI lifecycle, balancing innovation with regulatory and risk expectations. You will operate at the forefront of innovation, ensuring that AI capabilities are delivered safely, ethically, and in alignment with regulatory expectations, while enabling speed, scalability, and business value

Position is based out of Plano, TX. Fannie Mae does provide the opportunity for relocation assistance.

The Impact You Will Make

This role sits within the first line of defense and is accountable for embedding responsible, transparent, and controlled AI practices across the full lifecycle-from design and development to deployment and monitoring.

You will operate at the forefront of innovation, ensuring that AI capabilities are delivered safely, ethically, and in alignment with regulatory expectations, while enabling speed, scalability, and business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver enterprise governance models for AI/ML, agentic systems, and orchestrated multi‑agent ecosystems.
  • Establish AI risk tiering, oversight models, and decision accountability frameworks for AI/ML, decision tools, and autonomous systems.
  • Develop escalation thresholds and human‑in‑the‑loop requirements aligned to AI risk profiles and regulatory expectations.
  • Author and maintain AI governance frameworks, standards, and research to guide responsible AI adoption.
  • Build governance frameworks for customer‑facing AI agents, ensuring explainability, transparency, and appropriate consent.
  • Create strategic frameworks and best practices for data and AI governance that balance innovation velocity with safe, ethical, and compliant deployment.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging AI governance challenges and evolving regulatory expectations.
  • Align AI governance strategy with enterprise objectives, transformation initiatives, and competitive positioning.
  • Build strong relationships across business lines and Corporate Functions to shape and embed AI governance requirements.
  • Apply deep technical expertise in AI/ML, including traditional ML, deep learning, multi‑modal models, and agentic constructs, to inform practical governance and risk management strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership in governance, controls, compliance, and risk management for AI‑enabled technologies and architectures.
  • Lead and influence large‑scale, complex AI/ML initiatives through cross‑functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrate strong technical writing skills tailored to technical, regulatory, and executive audiences.
  • Bring hands‑on experience with agentic AI, autonomous systems, and AI architectures to support effective governance design and execution.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable AI and privacy regulatory landscapes, including FHFA guidance.
  • Exhibit executive presence and the ability to influence senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in AI/ML governance, risk management, or related technical domains.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and stakeholder influence skills.

Shows curiosity and adaptability in learning and responsibly applying new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to reimagine how we work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred, such as MS and/or PhD.
  • Background in AI research and emerging technologies.
  • Experience implementing technology‑enabled governance solutions across multiple industries or global markets.
