Job Description

CLMI Group is seeking a Construction Inspector to support Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Tenant Improvement Program (TDIP) capital improvement and tenant improvement projects.

The Construction Inspector will support LAWA’s construction inspection efforts as a member of the Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division, working across multiple projects within LAWA’s Tenant Improvement Program with a primary focus on building disciplines. The position is assigned to a MATOC (Multiple Award Task Order Contract), Scope 1 – Quality and Safety Services, and is estimated to run from July 20, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

Airport Construction Inspector - TDIP

Supports LAWA’s Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division in the following efforts:

  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications.
  • Review and interpret construction documents including blueprints, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports clearly documenting the who, what, when, where, and how of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Verify contractor compliance with local jurisdiction requirements, building codes, and LAWA-specific proprietary standards.
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
  • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities as assigned.
  • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values, as assigned.
  • Perform inspections related to building construction, including but not limited to: clearing, grubbing, and demolition of building structures; excavation, trenching, and shoring; grade and elevation survey; structural backfill and compaction for underground utilities; structural and nonstructural concrete work; formwork, footings, and micro piles; sewer and storm drain inspection; metal stud framing, drywall installation, and interior finishes; door and hardware components; and T-bar ceilings, hard lids, and other fire-rated components.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Five (5) years or more of experience performing inspection of large-scale Public Works type projects.
  • 30-hour Cal-OSHA training and certificate, received within the last four (4) years, prior to assignment.
  • Training in the use of fall protection equipment and harness with lanyard.
  • Confined space awareness certification.
  • NFPA 70E certification required for electrical inspectors.
  • Clear understanding and interpretation of LA City Building Code and ADA requirements.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain a LAWA SIDA badge prior to official start.
  • Ability to walk extremely long distances during the shift, as this is the primary means of traversing between expansive terminals.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffold, and to crawl into areas associated with the work taking place in the terminals.
  • Ability to work day, swing, modified, or night shifts, including weekends, as dictated by the contractor’s schedule.

Additional Qualifications

  • ICC certifications and Deputy Inspector Licenses are preferred but not required.
  • Good knowledge and ability to inspect large-scale construction of airport and public building facilities, which may include steel and concrete structures, architectural finishes and components, and other construction related to airport terminal operations, ensuring conformance with safety regulations, plans, specifications, and other applicable documents.
  • Experience inspecting demolition and the construction of buildings from start to finish.
  • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet required standards.
  • Strong understanding of diverse requirements, with excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Project Management Information software used for inspection and document control (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam).
  • Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision.
  • Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks is preferred.

  • Required to work various shifts, including day, swing, modified, and night shifts, including weekends, as dictated by the contractor’s schedule and accelerated project timelines.
  • Shall be open to modified schedules driven by contractor work activities and accelerated project schedules.
  • Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks is preferred.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The salary range for this positions is $133,000 - $143,000
