SUMMARY
As an Airport Mechanic I, you will have the opportunity to perform entry and journeyman level maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of airport mechanical and electrical systems, operate heavy equipment, and safely work on active runways and taxiways. You will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing all areas of Amarillo International Airport, including the airfield operation, terminal building, and landside operation.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspecting and performing preventive maintenance and repairs on Airport equipment, such as baggage handling equipment, car wash, or tenant leased buildings.
Acts as a first responder in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan during airfield emergencies by providing support and escorts for fire, medical, law enforcement and operations activities. Participates with recovery efforts so air carrier operations can resume.
Maintaining and repairing the Airport mechanical plant and related mechanical and electrical equipment including, but not limited to pumps, valves, boilers, chillers, motors, switchgear, motor control centers, breaker panels, irrigation, landscape, and other components.
Surveys the overall condition of the Airport tenant leased buildings and other Airport facilities to determine any repairs that are needed.
Troubleshooting and minor repairs to electrical and mechanical systems.
Working on HVAC systems and air handlers.
Completing plumbing and electrical repairs and maintenance.
Participate in snow removal operations during winter operations.
Completing work orders, PM's and documenting work completed.
Completing Airport Mechanic I daily duties, including trash removal, cleaning and other similar tasks.
Other duties as assigned and as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to be trained and qualified to drive on an active airfield within 60 days of employment and be able to pass recurrent training every 12 months. Must be able to work with minimal or no direct supervision. Apprentice level experience in mechanical and electrical repairs. Possession of a valid Class C driver's license. Class B preferred. Must pass a 10-year background check in accordance with TSA regulations and drug/alcohol screening. Must complete FEMA N.I.M.S. training within 30 days of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be able to learn and understand how to adhere to FAA, TSA, and State regulations.
Must be able to understand and adhere to responsibilities in accordance with the Airport Certification Manual, Airport Emergency Plan, Airport Security Plan, and the Airport Snow and Ice Control Plan. Recurrent training for these programs is every 12 months.
Preferred to have minor knowledge or skills in one or more of the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry and Irrigation.
Ability in Reading blueprints, schematics, technical bulletins are preferred.
Ability to operate basic hand and power tools.
Ability to operate basic landscaping equipment (string trimmer, edger, and ZTR mowers.)
Ability and willingness to learn.
Ability to be part of a team in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to troubleshoot problems independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work shifts, weekends, holidays and 24-hour callout.
Ability to climb on and around catwalks, scaffolds, and equipment.
Ability to climb 150' towers and operate an aerial lift up to 100'.
Ability to operate equipment such as heavy-duty snowplows, snow brooms, mowers, tractors, construction equipment and pick-up trucks

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works in all weather conditions indoors and outdoors and is subject to 24 hours call out. This position is subject to scheduled shift work anytime from 3:45 am until 9:30 p.m. 7 days a week. Scheduled shifts work 4 days on, 3 days off, 10-hour shifts. Subject to weekend work and overtime.
