WAGE Set by the Old Harbor Native Corporation
REPORTS TO Curator of Collections
SUPERVISES None
SCHEDULE Up to 35 hours a week, Monday – Friday
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Collections Care Intern assists the museum's curatorial staff with the care of cultural belongings entrusted to the museum. This position participates in lab work, digitization projects, and facility upkeep. The internship is supported by the Old Harbor Native Corporation and is intended to introduce careers in heritage preservation.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
- Assists with caring for collections, including cleaning, cataloging, inventorying, and storing cultural belongings and library materials. This will include caring for a collection of artifacts from the Tangirnaq Spring Site returning to Kodiak in 2026.
- Assists with the care of collections documentation, including organizing, scanning, inventorying, and filing documents, field notes, and photographs-both physical and digital.
- Supports the care of collection facilities, including dusting, wiping surfaces, and organizing and inventorying supplies.
- Participates in staff meetings and special events as requested.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
This position requires no previous experience. On the job training will be provided at the Alutiiq Museum.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or physically maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds on a frequent and regular basis.
