Analyst, Policy & Communications

Reporting to the Managing Director, Health Policy & Strategy, the Analyst, Policy & Communications is a key member of The Academy Advisors team responsible for executing and advancing TAA’s policy communications strategy. This individual will play a central role in translating complex federal health policy and research into executive-ready messaging, shaping TAA’s external voice, and supporting strategic engagement initiatives across the membership.

The Analyst will work cross-functionally across policy, research, membership, and events teams, and will coordinate closely with external communications partners to ensure consistent, high-quality messaging aligned with TAA’s strategic priorities.

This role requires strong editorial judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to operate independently with minimal oversight in a fast-paced, executive-facing environment.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Lead the drafting, editing, and refinement of executive-facing materials – including talking points, presentations, newsletters, messaging frameworks, and other external communications – ensuring consistency, strategic alignment, and executive-level quality standards.
  • Translate policy analysis and research outputs into clear, concise, and strategically aligned messaging appropriate for health system executive audiences.
  • Drive digital and thought leadership content efforts, including management of social media strategy, sourcing and synthesizing policy- and research-based content, drafting posts, and monitoring engagement metrics.
  • Exercise sound judgement in externally visible communications, ensuring alignment with TAA’s positioning and member sensitivities.
  • Support and operationalize TAA’s communications programming, including development of messaging guides, executive toolkits, and resources that enable members to strengthen their own external positioning.
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for external communications firms, driving alignment, timelines, quality control, and integration with TAA strategy.
  • Develop and maintain messaging frameworks, standardized templates, and editorial processes to promote consistency and scalability across TAA outputs.
  • Collaborate closely with policy analysts and research staff to ensure seamless integration between policy analysis, engagement strategy, and communications deliverables.
  • Monitor health policy developments and emerging issues to inform communications priorities and content direction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in communications, public affairs, policy communications, or related work at a healthcare organization, trade association, advocacy organization, consulting firm, think tank, or government entity.
  • Demonstrated experience producing executive-level written materials in a policy-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience exercising editorial judgement in high-visibility or externally facing contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects independently with minimal oversight in a fast-paced, executive-facing environment.
  • Strong ability to translate complex policy concepts into concise, persuasive, and audience-appropriate communications.
  • Experience developing digital thought leadership content, including social media strategy and performance tracking.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and tone-management skills; ability to ensure narrative cohesion across a range of materials.
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors or consultants preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public health, communications, public policy, journalism, or a related field; Master’s degree a plus.
  • Familiarity with federal health policy issues required; knowledge of issues impacting hospitals and nonprofit health systems strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in developing high-quality presentation materials and executive-facing documents.

Interpersonal Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong editorial instincts and attention to detail
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term messaging priorities with day-to-day execution
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and priorities independently
  • Sound judgment and discretion in executive-facing communications
  • Confidence and discretion in advising on messaging decisions involving senior stakeholders
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach
  • Strong organizational skills from planning through execution
  • Member-oriented and service-driven
  • Intellectual curiosity and sustained interest in healthcare policy and nonprofit health system issues

Benefits and Compensation:

THMA offers a comprehensive slate of benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k) matching, cell phone and commuter reimbursements, generous paid time off, and paid parental leave.
