Animal Care Technician (Windham, ME)

This position works as part of a team caring for animals in a large laboratory and barn setting. Responsibilities include feeding and watering, cleaning cages, running a cage wash machine, and other animal husbandry tasks. Position may also include cross training in ascites production tasks such as immunizing animals, withdrawing ascites, maintaining supply inventories, and computerized documentation.

We offer a training program in animal care and production operations. As a production facility, we require above average attention to detail and ability to read and understand written technical documents. We expect a high standard of animal care and diligent compliance with animal welfare regulations.

• Not eligible to work in this environment if you currently have contact with rodents or rabbits.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen prior to starting work.
• Candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.

Work Schedule:

• Monday thru Friday 8 hour shifts, typically 7am to 4pm (including occasional weekend rotations)
• This is a full-time contract position with a starting pay rate of $19/hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience with animals is helpful but not required
• Farm animal experience is a huge plus!
• Ability to understand technical documents and work instructions
• Ability to work in a team as well as independently
• Ability to repetitively manipulate feeding scoops, cleaning brushes, hoof trimmers, syringes, wash machines, etc.
• Basic computer skills required for data entry and communications
• Ability to frequently lift 50 lbs
• Exposure to weather
