Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Planner to lead the planning and design of complex healthcare facilities. This role is responsible for guiding programming, master planning, and medical design efforts while serving as a trusted expert to clients and user groups. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of healthcare environments, strong communication abilities, and a passion for advancing high-quality, innovative, and sustainable healthcare design. This position also represents the firm nationally as a technical expert within the healthcare design industry.

REPONSIBILITIES:Leadership

Lead the medical planning effort for large, complex healthcare facility projects.

Provide medical planning expertise to project teams and contribute to the firmwide healthcare practice.

Participate in user meetings with department heads, clinicians, and specialists to collect programming requirements.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients' program needs, standards, policies, and operational workflows.

Apply technical knowledge in the planning and design of healthcare facilities of various sizes and types.

Oversee interdisciplinary coordination and ensure technical quality control throughout the project.

Prepare and modify architectural documents, including drawings, elevations, sections, and details.

Develop solutions to technical and design challenges while adhering to established standards.

Communicate planning concepts through verbal presentations, diagrams, and written reports.

Lead project meetings and client presentations as needed.

Mentor and guide less experienced staff, contributing to professional development within the team.

Actively participate in the firmwide healthcare practice and relevant industry associations.

Promote sustainability principles and Evidence-Based Design.

Foster strong internal and external client relationships.

Teamwork

Assist in developing project scope, work plans, and service agreements.

Translate planning concepts into clear, actionable guidance for clients, designers, and project team members.

Support design development and the modification or review of medical planning solutions.

Coordinate project budgets and milestone schedules in partnership with project managers, architects, and engineers.

Collaborate closely with consultants to implement medical planning strategies.

Contribute to developing standard materials describing the Healthcare Group's systems, processes, and project portfolio.

Prepare 2D and 3D presentation and design drawings.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Architecture or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum 5 years of experience focusing on healthcare projects, including new facilities, renovations, departmental planning, and complex largescale healthcare environments.

Healthcare design certification preferred.

Architecture license preferred.

LEED Accreditation or Green Associate credential preferred.

Strong knowledge of healthcare planning principles, workflow, and clinical operations.

Proficiency in architectural documentation and construction detailing.

Ability to clearly communicate planning concepts through verbal, written, and graphic formats.

Experience leading user group meetings and client presentations.

Ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Commitment to sustainability and evidence-based design practices.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate project needs.

Other Requirements

Travel may be required.Overtime may be required based on project needs.
