Description
Greenville University is seeking an Area Coordinator to join our Student Integrated Success Team. The Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and oversight for assigned residential communities while fostering a safe, inclusive, and developmentally rich living environment that supports Greenville University's mission and values.
As an educator and mentor, the Area Coordinator intentionally cultivates student growth by helping residents connect their academic experiences with personal, social, spiritual, and leadership development. Through the supervision of student leaders, crisis response, community development, and administrative management, the Area Coordinator plays a critical role in student success, retention, and belonging.
This is a full-time, live-in position requiring the employee to reside in an assigned campus residence.
Essential Responsibilities
Student Development and Community Building
- Foster welcoming, inclusive, and engaging residential communities that promote student success and belonging.
- Develop and implement intentional educational and community-building initiatives that address the developmental needs of residential students.
- Provide mentorship, support, and appropriate guidance to residents experiencing academic, social, personal, or transitional challenges.
- Serve as a positive role model who demonstrates integrity, Christian character, service, and leadership.
Student Staff Supervision and Leadership
- Recruit, select, train, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Resident Assistants (RAs) and Graduate Assistants (GAs) in collaboration with Residence Life leadership.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one supervisory meetings.
Support student leaders in planning programs, responding to concerns, and building healthy floor communities.
- Encourage leadership development and professional growth among student staff.
Student Conduct and Crisis Response
- Address and document incidents involving violations of University policies and the Student Code of Conduct.
- Utilize educational and restorative approaches to student accountability whenever appropriate.
- Respond to student crises and emergencies, including mental health concerns, behavioral issues, and community disruptions.
- Maintain readiness and assist in emergency response efforts related to fire, severe weather, medical emergencies, and other campus incidents.
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned residential communities.
- Maintain accurate records and complete required reports in a timely manner.
- Assist with occupancy management, room assignments, room changes, and residential transitions.
- Conduct and document health and safety inspections.
- Monitor student engagement and academic progress through established retention initiatives.
- Utilize University systems and software, including Microsoft Office and Slate, to manage communication, records, and reporting.
- Collaborate with Student Accounts and other campus partners to support accurate housing and meal plan billing.
- Assist with federal compliance processes and vaccine documentation requirements as assigned.
Programming and Campus Engagement
- Plan and support residence life programming designed to promote community, wellness, leadership, academic success, and spiritual development.
- Participate in campus traditions and signature programs, including Walkabout leadership experiences and New Student Orientation initiatives.
- Collaborate with campus departments to connect students with institutional resources and support services.
On-Call Responsibilities
- Participate in the Residence Life professional staff on-call rotation.
- Serve as a primary responder for residential emergencies and student concerns occurring outside of regular business hours.
- Provide consultation, support, and follow-up related to after-hours incidents.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership or designated supervisor in support of departmental and institutional goals.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- One to three years of experience in residence life, student affairs, higher education, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations and maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to student development and the mission of Greenville University.
- Ability and willingness to live on campus and work evenings, weekends, and other nontraditional hours as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Leadership, or a related field.
- Experience supervising student staff.
- Experience with housing management systems, retention initiatives, and student conduct processes.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to navigate campus facilities, including stairs and multiple residence halls.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response situations.
- Residence in University-provided housing is a condition of employment
Compensation and Benefits (salary: $35,600 plus benefits)
This is a full-time, live-in position that requires the Area Coordinator to reside within their assigned residential community as an integral part of fostering a vibrant and supportive campus environment.
