Job Description

Operates the thermoplastic extruder line (usually with another Aerial Cable Operator) and consistently meets or exceeds internal and/or customer specifications in a safe manner with minimum scrap.

SHIFT DETAILS

Working Shift: Mon-Fri 3pm-11pm

Training Shift: Mon-Fri 7am-3pm

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities

  • Review documentation / work orders
  • Set up machine including:
  • Load / operate pay off and take up machinery
  • Set up / adjust armor machine per specifications
  • Splice / weld components, repair broken tape etc
  • Monitor production
  • Perform quality checks
  • Operate fork trucks and change cylinders
  • Document processes
  • Communicate with supervisors

Marginal Functions:

  • Clean work area
  • Train employees
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Hoist and lift assist devices
  • Fork truck
  • Reel carrier
  • Easy reel mover
  • Hand truck
  • Variety of hand tools including but not limited to long handle cutters and wrenches, utility knife, scissors, file ratchets
  • Variety of handheld power tools such as saws all, band saw
  • Variety of machine components
  • TIG welder
  • Miller spot welder
  • Printer on wheeled stand
  • Push broom, dustpan
  • Shop vac
  • Calibration tools including vernier caliper and micrometer
  • Computer and associated hardware

Work Site Measures:

  • Reels, various sized, moved with assist devices
  • Miller spot welder, 4" high work height, 18" high foot activation pedal
  • Handheld power tools such as band saw: 15 lbs., saws all, 20 lbs.
  • Rolls of metal and fabric up to 32" diameter, 1-2" wide,
  • Tape: 30 lbs.
  • Metal: requires hoist
  • TIG welder: 46" high
  • Machine controls: 58-66" high
  • Machine components / tools: variety sizes and weights, most up to 10 lbs.
  • Printer: 42" high
  • String spindles: 8" high, 4" diameter, 2-3 lbs.
  • Lub oil barrels: 40" hig, 26" diameter, 20-30 lbs. force to move (varies with how full barrel is)
  • Propane cylinders: 28" high, 12" diameter, 45 lbs. full

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the wire & cable industry a plus but not required.
  • High school degree required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Position requires individuals with proven mechanical aptitude. Must have ability to:
  • Read micrometers and other related precision tools.
  • Weld conductor.
  • Perform shop arithmetic.
  • Read and follow written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively to receive and pass on information and instruction.
  • Troubleshoot basic line problems.
  • Continuously pay attention to details.
  • Read and interpret gauges.
  • Fulfill simple computer tasks.
  • Work within a Team structure.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Previous extrusion line experience gained internally/externally.

  • Position requires individuals to have the ability to:
  • Lift 75 pounds from floor to chest.
  • Maneuver (roll, spin and align) up to an 84" reel safely.
  • Exert 25 pounds of force with cable cutters.
  • Visually inspect quality of product.
  • Use handheld tools and measuring devices
