Job Description:

The Art Teacher is responsible for instilling an understanding and appreciation for the arts in their students.  S/he will plan and execute art-based curriculum, while also helping students develop their own creative abilities in a dynamic and engaging environment.

The Art Teacher will provide instruction in elements and principles of art and design while integrating art history, cultural context, and diverse artistic traditions into projects.   The Art Teacher is one member of a multi-disciplinary team delivering an individualized learning experience to students with Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, and Multiple Disabilities.  

Essential Duties:

· Develop and implement engaging art lessons for students with Autism, Intellectual Disability, or other special needs based on Maryland state standards.

· Instruct students in various artistic techniques and media as well as art history

· Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment for personal growth and self-expression

· Assess and evaluate students' artistic growth and development and maintain necessary documentation of student performance

· Organize and display student artworks throughout the school buildings

· Encourage creativity and self-expression among students

· Provide individualized support to students with varying levels of artistic ability while adhering to applicable aspects of student IEPs (i.e. supplemental aids, behavior plans, etc.)

· Collaborate with other teachers and staff on interdisciplinary projects

· Maintain the safety of the instructional areas and enforce art room safety protocols as appropriate (i.e. age-appropriate tool use, proper material handling, etc.)

· Prepare and maintain lesson plans, protocols, and daily schedules in advance.
