Job Description
Part-time overnight shifts: typical hours are 8:00 or 9:00 PM till 8:00 or 8:30 AM, 2/3 nights per week
$750.00 sign-on bonus, $12.25 per hour
SUMMARY
This is an asleep position unless the individual gets up during the night and needs staff assistance.
Home and Community Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are responsible for a variety of duties related to the overall care of an individual with a developmental disability or an acquired brain injury in their home. This includes direct care. Some of the duties and responsibilities vary in intensity and frequency depending individual supported.
The following list of duties is intended only to describe the various types of work that may be performed and is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists the individual in areas including, health and personal hygiene, safety, cooking and nutrition, communication, May also assist with household duties.
- Provides medication administration, if the individual is unable to administer their own medication. This is determined by the agency nurse.
- Communicates with the Program Manager any concerns impacting the individual's well-being including injury, illness or changes in emotional and/or physical status. Follow behavior plan if applicable.
- Provides transportation to daily programs.
- Accurately documents all program data, including but not limited to: daily notes, medication logs, incident reports, mileage reimbursement forms, seizure logs, weight, in a timely manner.
- Follows safety protocols to foster a safe working environment, reports unsafe conditions, environment, and equipment to the Program Manager.
- Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures. Maintains individual's confidentiality. Recognizes and acts on the legal responsibilities concerning the safety and welfare of the individual.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Ideal candidate has one to two years' experience working with people with developmental disabilities. Required to complete all MDS assigned trainings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are considered Essential Employees. This classification means that the staff person will be required to work in program.
Work schedules vary and include day, evening and overnight shifts throughout the week and weekend. Staff are accountable for all hours assigned, are punctual and regular in attendance, and attend appropriate training activities. Flexibility to accommodate individuals served is necessary. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and 100,000/300,000 auto insurance is required. Mileage reimbursement is available for employment related travel.
Most DSP positions require medication certification. Training for medication administration is provided by the agency Nurse. Safety Care training may be required. DSPs will have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. or more with assistance/lifts.
DSPs must pass the following background checks; criminal record, motor vehicles record, Bureau of Adult and Aging Services (BAAS), Division of Child, Youth and Families (DCYF), Office of Inspector General (OIG).
