Job Description

Job Title: RTU Assembly Tech (Road Crew)- This position has some travel.

Location: Custom Mechanical Equipment, Ponca City, Oklahoma

Job Summary:

The Rooftop Screening Technician is responsible for the installation of barriers or enclosures around rooftop equipment, such as HVAC units, to conceal them from view, protect them from the elements, and enhance the aesthetics of a building. This role involves measuring, fabricating, assembling, and securing screening structures to meet architectural specifications and local building codes. The technician ensures that all installations are structurally sound, visually appealing, and compliant with project requirements while maintaining safety and efficiency on-site. Must be able to travel and work overtime.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation & Fabrication of Rooftop Screens

  • Install custom barriers, louvers, or enclosures around rooftop HVAC units and other equipment.
  • Ensure proper alignment, structural stability, and secure attachment of screening materials.
  • Measure and cut metal, aluminum, or composite panels to fit specific job site requirements.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and fastening systems to assemble screening structures.
  • Work from blueprints, architectural drawings, and project specifications to meet design expectations.

Site Preparation & Safety Compliance

  • Assess rooftop conditions before installation to ensure safety and proper anchoring.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety guidelines, including fall protection and PPE usage.
  • Secure work areas and ensure proper lifting, rigging, and hoisting of materials.
  • Safely transport and handle metal panels, framework, and mounting hardware.

Structural & Aesthetic Quality Control

  • Ensure all installations are built to meet wind load requirements, structural codes, and aesthetic standards.
  • Conduct final inspections to confirm proper alignment, stability, and durability.
  • Perform repairs and adjustments as necessary to ensure high-quality finishes.
  • Work with project managers, engineers, and contractors to troubleshoot challenges and ensure compliance with project specifications.

Team Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Work closely with other departments to coordinate installation timelines.
  • Accurately and consistently use the company's ERP system to document work time, inventory usage, job progress, and any other required information in a timely manner.
  • Provide feedback on design improvements and installation techniques to improve efficiency.
  • Assist in training new team members on installation procedures and safety standards.

Performance Metrics:

  • Installation Accuracy: Ensure 100% of rooftop screens are installed to architectural and structural specifications.
  • Safety Compliance: Maintain zero safety violations by adhering to OSHA regulations and fall protection procedures.
  • Efficiency & Timeliness: Complete 95%+ of projects within the scheduled timeline while maintaining quality standards.
  • Quality & Stability: Ensure 100% compliance with wind load, weather resistance, and material durability standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in construction, sheet metal installation, fabrication, or related fields.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in using power tools, cutting equipment, and fastening systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and architectural plans.

  • Familiarity with metal framing, panel assembly, and anchoring techniques.

  • Understanding of structural stability, load-bearing requirements, and material durability.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and lift during installation activities.

  • Must be able to work at heights and climb ladders.

  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and other environmental conditions.

  • Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure quality finishes and accurate installation.

  • Problem-solving skills for addressing unique installation challenges.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

Flexibility Requirement:

Due to the dynamic nature of our production process, all employees are expected to be flexible in their work assignments. If there is a temporary shortage of work in your primary department or craft, you may be assigned to assist in other departments or perform tasks outside your usual scope of work. Refusal to accept such assignments may result in being sent home without pay for that period. This ensures continuous workflow and supports overall company productivity.
