We are seeking our next Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Come work in a vibrant academic neurology program in one of the country's most thriving Veterinary Schools! Louisiana State University has an open clinical or tenure-track faculty position for a neurologist to join our team. Our team of specialists include faculty in small animal neurology, internal medicine, medical and radiation oncology, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, integrative medicine and rehabilitation, emergency and critical care, anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, dermatology, zoological medicine, ophthalmology, theriogenology, and large animal medicine and surgery. Our facility houses a 1.5T MRI, a 60 slice Fuji CT scanner, electrodiagnostics, and a full radiology suite with fluoroscopy, diagnostic x-ray, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine, among other specialty equipment.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery- Tenure track

50% - Clinical service: Provide direct patient care for animals presented to a clinical veterinary neurology service. Cooperate with other clinical faculty in the clinical and hospital practice.

50 %- Scholarly endeavor and instruction: Participate in the school's research program as a team leader or member. Participate in house officer training and in the continuing education programs of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Participate in the didactic and tutorial instructional programs of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Collaborate with other faculty members in the development of teaching programs and instructional materials.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Successful completion of a veterinary neurology residency approved by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Neurology.

Associate Professor

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • 5 years related research/teaching/ clinical experience
  • Board certification in neurology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Neurology

Full Professor

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • 8 years related research/ teaching/ clinical experience
  • Board certification in neurology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Neurology

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Able to answer phone calls after hours from house officers regarding Neurology cases. May be required to come in after hours, on weekends or holidays to provide consultation for cases with emergent neurological issues. Availability to work 8-10 hour shifts.

Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, sitting, bending, crawling, squatting, and/or twisting. Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing more than 50 pounds.

This position is subject to oversight and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. Requires working with or around areas with hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases.

Per PS-18, employee may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
