Job Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Mass Media Studies/Chair of HumanitiesLocation: Talladega CollegeDepartment: Mass Media StudiesPosition Type: Full-time (10-month [Faculty]/11-month [Chair])Reports to: Dean of Humanities and Fine ArtsJob Summary: Talladega College seeks an experienced, visionary faculty member to serve asAssistant or Associate Professor of Mass Media Studies, to begin August 2, 2026. For candidatesdemonstrating an exceptional track record of prior academic leadership and administrativeexcellence, this position may be expanded to include leadership responsibilities as the Chair ofHumanities, overseeing a broader portfolio of degree programs within the School of Humanitiesand Fine Arts.The successful candidate must hold an earned Ph.D. in journalism, mass communications, massmedia studies, or a closely related field, and possess robust teaching experience at the collegiatelevel.Key Responsibilities• Teach discipline-specific in-person and blended courses• Implement innovative pedagogy in various facets of mass media• Actively provide academic advisement and collaborate to recruit and retain students• Recommend courses to be offered in the department each semester• Adhere to College policies and procedures• Develop and assess degree programs and student learning outcomes• Maintain course learning management systems• Review and recommend revisions to department catalog content• Project a professional, positive, and upbeat disposition• Meet established deadlines• Utilize and remain current with the College’s instructional technologies• Participate in required Faculty, Department, School, and College meetings• Serve on School-and College-wide committees, collaborating closely with administration• Perform other duties as assignedAcademic Leadership: If appointed as Chair of Humanities:o Recommend, design, and manage the schedule of classes to be offered eachsemester, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and student needso Lead recruitment and retention initiatives across disciplineso Teach a reduced course load as determined by the School Deano Supervise senior projects in collaboration with Facultyo Coordinate and oversee academic program reviewso Provide oversight for Liberal Arts, English, History, and Mass Media Studiesdegree programso Manage department budgets responsiblyo Oversee compliance with national, state, and regional accreditation standardso Administer college policies and procedures effectivelyo Communicate department needs and decisionso Maintain open lines of communication among department faculty/staffo Recommend catalog updates as appropriate for evolving discipline-specificprogram needso Perform leadership duties as assigned by the DeanQualifications• Earned Ph.D. in journalism, mass communications, mass media studies, or a highlyrelated field from an accredited institution• Proven track record of successful classroom instructional experience at the collegiatelevel, with demonstrated success in implementing innovative pedagogy• For Chair Consideration Only: Prior administrative or leadership experience (e.g.,Program Director, Department Chair, or committee lead)• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail• Demonstrated success in developing, assessing, and evaluating academic programs• Proficient in using educational and administrative technology as a management andreporting toolApplication ProcessApplications must include:1.
