Assistant Director, Honor Code Office
The Assistant Director will assist the director in implementing a student conduct system which aligns with the University Mission and Aims to build disciples of Jesus Christ and strives to protect the educational environment for all members of the BYU community. This position is responsible for teaching the campus community, including faculty, staff and students, how to interpret and apply principle-based Honor Code standards. The university relies on the Assistant Director as a subject-matter expert in the field of student conduct, including educating the campus about student conduct and how this work aligns and differs from other campuses.
The Assistant Director is responsible for supervising administrators and coordinating the internal training and professional development opportunities for the HCO staff. This Assistant Director oversees the assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes. In the case that the Director of the HCO is unavailable or out of the office, the Assistant Director will make administrative decisions. The Assistant Director will also have an allotment of HC cases to investigate along with the administrative responsibilities. The Assistant Director will investigate reports of HC violations and help students become accountable through an educational process that allows for personal change and growth.
What you'll do in this position:
- Assistant Director
- Supervise and support HC administrators (meetings, case guidance, performance management, onboarding, and training).
- Ensure investigations and decisions comply with university policy, laws, and best practices, audit past cases for quality and consistency.
- Lead staff development, team building, and training initiatives; oversee data collection, assessment, and student learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with Director on strategy, resource planning, unit review, policy updates, and operational decisions, act in Director's absence.
- Represent HCO in committees/meetings, coordinate with CES (including annual conference), and assist with case support and administrative reviews.
- Outreach and Training
- Provide leadership for outreach/training efforts and guide administrators in this area.
- Deliver advanced trainings to deans/colleges, including addressing misconceptions of HCO work.
- Investigations & Educational Action Plans
- Manage reports: assess jurisdiction/violations, conduct impartial investigations, interview parties, and gather evidence in compliance with laws/policies.
- Maintain thorough, unbiased records using case management systems; communicate rights, processes, and resources to involved parties.
- Develop and implement individualized educational action plans and interventions, including coordination across related university processes (e.g., Title IX, EEO).
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Bachelor's Degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or related field;
- 3 years of experience in student counseling, advisement, or student judicial affairs, arbitration, or related college/university experience
- Strong commitment to the Mission and Aims of BYU and to a non-adversarial, educational, learning-based student conduct philosophy
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including experience in conducting motivational and investigative interviews
- Ability to engage in creative problem solving that leads to implementation sanctions focused on educating and enhancing student learning and development
- Ability to handle sensitive information and situations appropriately, while maintaining strict confidentiality
- Effectively interact with a diverse student population and various campus departments when communicating in oral and written form, while managing multiple tasks in a dynamic university work environment
Preferred
- Master's degree in high education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field
- 5 years of experience in student counseling, advisement, or student judicial affairs, arbitration, or related college/university experience. Experience in supervising full-time staff
- Capacity to work independently and as a HCO team member. The position requires the skills and ability to work with computer databases, spreadsheets, M/S Office Suite, and other basic office software packages
- Ability to conduct professional presentations
- Skill and experience in developing and utilizing learning outcomes and assessments to create a meaningful educational and developmental experience for the students
- Autonomy in supervising, educating and training office staff

Pay Grade: 55
Typical Starting Pay: $92,000 - $119,000
The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
